Learn to cut children's hair Post Reply

Hi - does anyone know of a course to learn to cut children's hair? I have two kids and another due imminently and the £16 a haircut at Trotters is starting to add up - as well as the frustration of them never having appointments at short notice.
I though it might be more convenient and save money if I learnt to do it myself but couldn't find anything when I searched on line - I might have to rely on YouTube tutorials but that feels a little experimental and don't want to make a mess of it.

I cut my kids' hair all the time. It's not that hard, although they are less inclined to sit still for their own parents than for a hairdresser. I looked around for courses too but never found anything. Instead I bought some proper scissors from Boots and just had a go. Turned out fine. Not as good as a professional job but always looked tidier after I had cut it so have kept going. You can always pop to a proper hairdresser if things don't go to plan!

Thanks Headshrinker - do you have boys/girls or both? my current two are girls so if I can't find a course was thinking the same as you. The baby which is due is a boy so am assuming I won't have to crack cutting boys hair for a year. More nervous about that though as feel I could go more wrong

I have one of each. Girls are easier I think as you can start by just trimming the bottom. Mine both have messy hair which is quite forgiving but my skills have definitely improved over time.
Baby hair is really easy to cut so you can practice on your boy while he's little (and their hair is often a bit random anyway) so you will have it cracked by the time it matters! Good luck.

If you'd like a cheaper alternative try Julie on 07874 336041. She's a mobile hairdresser, fab with children and comes to your home (if within reasonable distance).

thanks - think will have an amateur go (as their hair is quite long) and then try Julie if/when it goes wrong.
