We have another thread "Thomas's Battersea vs Christ Church Chelsea" where someone has said multiple times that a child admitted to school on distance is not a "local child" on the basis that either the child's parents are immigrants and/or they can afford to pay school fees. And Annabel shuts down any challenge to the obvious racism of these comments ...

I am sick to death of paying £100k plus in taxes every year while seeing a big chunk of the "native" population feel that their birth in this country gives them some special status as "local" which means that they can sit on the welfare wagon and it is everyone else's job to push them.

Calling bull on what you have just said as actually, the 'welfare wagon' as you call is actually spending more money on PENSIONS than unemployment.

£108 billion on pensions compared to £3 billion on the unemployed. Obviously, one can look into this further and take into account housing benefits but you cannot add the whole amount as many low-income earners receive this payment not just the unemployed.

You clearly have very little understanding of the way this system works or the actual data.

Graceygirl: I'm not sure what the point of your post is. I'm not happy at paying so much to British pensioners either. I see them as even more on the welfare wagon than others. This thread seems to be drifting a little off topic.... The Conservative campaign seems to be lurching from pillar to post. Latest I have seen is a pledge to cap energy prices (shameful theft of Millibanc 2015 policy - state intervention yikes!) and Brexiter Micheal Fabricant is being pilloried for saying he thinks rural areas voted Macron and urban went for Le Pen - precisely the opposite of the truth.

When I came to the U.K. the top tax rate was 40%, higher rate taxpayers got personal allowance and there was no "triple lock" for state pensions. Are you really such a bigot that you expect that hard-working EU immigrants like me should stay silent when we are gouged left and right by an English population that abuse us while living off the net taxes that we pay?

I have voted in four general elections in this country. The rules here are as much mine as they are yours so you don't start with this bigoted attitude that if I disagree with things here I should just shut up or leave.

I have a much better understanding that you do of how things work here. To go back to your previous post, if English people had better diets and exercised, I wouldn't be paying for their mobility scooters and antidepressants. One only has to look at the education statistics, or look at the spelling and grammar of those who post on this site declaring themselves as "British nannies", to see evidenced that it's the white British who have the lowest educational achievement. Why should my taxes go to subsidise those who can't be bothered to learn even their own native language never mind another one?

This is all getting a bit heated, but to go back to the OP's question, I looked up results for NV constituencies from 2015:

Battersea: CONSERVATIVE 26,730, Labour 18,792, Lib Dem 2,241
Wimbledon: CONSERVATIVE 25,225, Labour 12,600, Lib Dem 6,129
Putney: CONSERVATIVE 23,018, Labour 12,838, Lib Dem 2,717
Streatham: LABOUR 26,474, Conservative 12,540, Lib Dem 4,491
Tooting (from 2016): LABOUR 17,894, Conservative 11,537, Lib Dem 820

From this, it seems like the Lib Dems don't have enough of a foothold to get an MP elected anywhere in Nappy Valley, although they did a little better in Wimbledon; maybe something to build on there.

Interestingly, all of the local MPs initially voted to stay in the EU but the Tory ones will have to support their party going forward. Rosena Allin-Khan (Tooting) was the only one who voted against triggering article 50 though.

But does anyone know the stance on Brexit of the Labour candidates in Battersea/Wimblendon/Putney?
Labour's Chuka Umunna in Streatham voted for triggering article 50 without any ammendments, so not sure what voting for Labour would achieve from a Brexit point of view?

All of those MPs voted remain and were pro-EU but they now have to support their party so are really limited in what they can do. You need more Labour/Lib Dem MPs to have some opposition. Otherwise they can push through whatever deal they feel like.

Oh and Chuka is a really good bet if you want a pro-EU MP. The vast majority of MPs voted to trigger article 30 as most felt the didn't have a choice. He will campaign hard to salvage what is left of our relationship with the EU.

I just got an email from Battersea Lib Dems (standing against Jane E) - they are holding their launch event at The Merchant on Battersea Rise next Weds May 3rd at 7.30pm for anyone who would like to go along and listen/support them.

They have merged the local Lib Dem groups to cover most of Nappy Valley now too. There has been a huge surge in membership so they will almost certainly do significantly better this time.

It's disappointing that all the three LibDem candidates for Wandsworth seats are men. The LibDems' male candidates are now targeting the seats of three leading women MPs: Kate Hoey, Jane Ellison and Justine Greening. Given the major contribution that having more women MPs over the past decade has made to political life - improving decision-making and resulting in better outcomes, it would be sad if there are fewer women MPs after the next election.

Actually the Lib Dems have tried really hard to get some balance amongst their members in recent years, including many all-female shortlists. Don't think this area is representative of what they are doing overall. Your post made me realise how many women MPs we have in SW London though.

Well they did add Sarah Olney in Richmond last December who unseated Zac Goldsmith and Kate Hoey is certainly not somebody I will miss either, Nigel Farage might. You know already how I feel about Jane.
