You can insult all you like but some of us care about what is happening where we live and don't want it ruined just so some developers can make loads of money with 6-storey buildings that look horrible

Caring about where we live also means opening the community up to new people moving in. Not locking it down and preventing all development. We need to move forward, not let the Victorians decide how many residences the area has.

And it's just ridiculous to complain that a new development of smart apartments will be more ugly than a bunch of semi disused warehouses next to a railway line  Building homes on brown field sites like the scruffy Jaggard Way is what we should be encouraging.

Same could be said for the library development - more homes and a new community library is better for the locality than some garages and a decrepit ugly 60's block. It's just common sense.

Is insulting the opinions of people you dont agree with your way of winning argument?
I don't think it's ridiculous at all. The companies that are there now are quietly going about there business, employing people - they're not just a brown field sight as you call it!!!

I definitely don't agree that what they are proposing is smart. I think it is quite boring looking and not in keeping with other buildings nearby. Plus what is there now is unobtrusive, only one story high, not six stories high...

How does caring where we live mean we have to open it up to new people - I can't see the conexion.

And who said anything about locking our community down!!

I'm not sure how your statements make sense except if you have a political axe to grind

Firstly,

"The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines a brownfield as "real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant".

Jaggard Way is not a brownfield site but rather, the last time I ordered shutters, a busy commercial/very light industrial community whose employees,
in addition to having a job, are lucky enough to work a gnat's whisker from a rail station. All too good to be true, so let's wreck it because, after all, it poses very little inconvenience for the adjacent residential area.

Once upon the nineteen eighties, WBC was at the forefront of creating little enterprise zones across the borough now it turns a greedy eye on Jaggard Way.

I have not even got to sharing my thoughts on the proposed (remember; proposed) development. However, I will leave it there for now and return tomorrow unless attention spans for this subject ........wain?

There now appears to be a lack of small enterprise zones in our area. And, as you say, the businesses on Jaggard Way do well (though the gym could be busier if it charged more reasonable prices!).
Will be interested to read your views on the proposed development...
Thanks

It's all very well for people saying that a modern block of flats is ok as long as it doesn't affect them but when they are going to be built overlooking your garden looming up into the sky and spoiling the view to Wandsworth Common (which is one of the reasons for buying the house originally) then they might change their mind! This area is like living in the country and to suddenly have horrible blocks if flats, loads of traffic and noise from the flats will totally change the ambience of the area. Having lived with this peace and quiet for years it is wholly unreasonable to expect neighbouring residents to be content for this development to take place. The commercial businesses which are there at the moment go about their business in a quiet manner and the roofs of their buildings just visible is infinitely better than some monstrosity towering up into the air!

"This area is like living in the country " ...but this is not the countryside ! You live in bustling city with an housing issues. There is no point in building homes similar in size to Victorian houses because they can accommodate two families at push. The apartment building design is nice looking and modern and I feel it will enhance the area .I don't understand your comment regarding the noise coming from the apartments.

If we worried about spoiling people's views towards Wandsworth Common (presumably over an industrial estate and a railway line ?!) then nothing would ever get built.

Fantastic! I would love to buy one of these and stop renting (paying someone else's mortgage) in the neighbourhood. Their design is consistent with Balham Walk, just the other side of the tracks, and blends perfectly with the other new construction down Bolingbroke. I can't image any reason to own a car with transport on my front doorstep. If a car is must there are several other developments in the area that do offer parking.

Hopefully a construction plan is implemented that disrupts the existing businesses as little as possible. Perhaps offering them equivalent space in the new buildings as it becomes available, leaving the original locations intact until it is. I don't really want to go months without my gym.

If you are renting now, will you be able to afford the sale prices of these new properties? I'm sure they won't be cheap!

I'm pretty sure based on all your comments that you are something to do with the developers or stand to gain in some way from the development taking place, as you seem absolutely determined that it should go ahead with no apparent regard for the impact on the local area or residents.
