Eaton House The Mannor Girls School

Postby CDSW11 » Wed May 10, 2017 9:30 pm

Hello, Could a mum give me some feedback on EHTMGS please?

We are in particular wondering whether it's very middle class British or more International? We thought Hornsby House looked very middle class British and you would have guessed it we are not British so whilst we dream of giving our daughter top notch education in an English school we'd like something like London - with plenty of foreigners!

Also, how do you manage if you are two working parents with after school care? I know there is a Nursery that can do after school pick up and keeps them until 7pm, but do someone do that? Aren't they children knackered?
Or do you all have an au pair?

We are new parents with no friends that have a +1 so very keen to hear more.

If I read your post right you've just had your first baby and are considering local private schools for the future? If so then congratulations!

my advice is to register with several schools asap, including any which you think could be contenders (even if there are one or two aspects you're not sure you are keen on). I wouldn't narrow it down too much at this stage. You will have a much clearer picture of what kind of school will suit your child when they are 3 than now and you'll be very grateful to have more options - the school that suits your child best may not be what you'd have picked at birth...

So Eaton House is definitely not very middle class British, although there is obviously a large percentage of British kids but there are also lots of international & mixed nationality/race kids. Off all the private schools locally we definitely thought it had the best diversity as it also mattered to us. In terms of after school care, although it doesn't concern me as I don't work people have a mix of nanny/au-pair I don't know if any kids that go to nursery after as you said they really are quite tired after a full day and they can do clubs until 5 if they want too.

I think both schools are as diverse as you can expect from private schools in the area. How old is your child? For the non selectives you really need to register by the time they are 6 months ( Hornsby recommends by 3 months!)

We're at Eaton house and it's definitely the most diverse school in the area. Racially and nationality diverse that is, not so much socially- everyone is either very middle class or foreign and obviously quite well off. Our little ones are mixed race and so that for us straight away ruled out broomwood and finton.
Everyone I know who works full time has either a nanny or au pair.

Thank you all. We have registered our daughter and she has her place confirmed at EHTMGS. Good to hear. Thanks!

Definitely agree with the advice that you should register with as many as possible and decide when they are about 3.
When we had our first I thought eaton house would be our first choice, but by the time he was 3 we realised single sex wouldn't suit ...
You can still go and visit them on open days though, so you get an idea for later.

Our children have been at EHTM (one at the girls' school, one in the pre-prep) since September 2015, after we returned from living abroad. We didn't have much choice in schools, as they were coming in at odd years, and we wanted them at the same place, so EHTM it was, and we have been very happy with both parts of the school. We were surprised at just how international it is, which suits our own family background and our recent experiences. I have heard French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, spoken at the front gates and different accents throughout. I felt the school prepared my daughter excellently for the 11+ exams. My son has recently taken 8+, and while the school doesn't prepare for those per-se (of course not - most boys move on to the Prep), the standard has been high and challenging. It is only for very personal reasons that we are moving our son next year and absolutely no reflection on the school, which has a first-class Headmistress. I can highly recommend EHTM for both boys and girls.
