School direct route to teaching Post Reply

Hi all

I am looking to switch careers from finance to teaching, especially primary school.. the appeal of predictable hours, having the same holidays as my daughter (she is 1 but thinking ahead )..

I have been exploring the school direct route and working on my application.. I spoke to one of the schools I was planning to apply to and they cautioned about the course being tough on young families...

I was wondering if there are any teachers on NVN who went the school direct route? Any advice/ insights

I left a career in finance 2 years ago and qualified as s maths teacher 2 weeks ago having chosen the salaried direct route.
As a mum I can definitely recommend it. There is a lot of work for the first 2 terms after which it calms down and I'm now looking forward to my 6 week break!
The benefits of salaried direct over pgce for me were staying local and having some influence over where I worked. In addition, having already worked I enjoyed getting my hands dirty straight away. Weeks in a training classroom would have frustrated me.

Thanks nfrost for sharing your experience.. so glad to hear! I was told first two terms are intense.. what were the hours like? I have a 1 year old who will be going to nursery so just want to be prepared..
