Roman Blinds - ideas for making them safe?

Postby sky » Tue Jun 13, 2017 4:51 pm

Hello

I have some existing roman blinds which are on a pull/draw string operation (not on a rolling cord). I usually wind up all of the spare cord around the metal bit on the wall but I want to make them even more child-safe. Can anyone recommend any products which would help please? I've looked at Clippasafe drawcord shorteners but it's not clear if I can still keep the metal bit at the bottom of the cord on when I wind up the cord in the shortener. It's hard to tell from the pictures I've found online.

Any advice would be much appreciated please.

Many thanks in advance :) :)

Just cut the cord loop so it is 2 separate cords?

Hiya,

I'm an sw11 based blind and curtain maker and know that the child safety regulations are a bit of a mine field!
With regards to cord/chains; when down they should be no longer than 150cm from the floor (unless you use a breakaway connector when using a chain). When using cord, the multiple cords should be connected to just one cord using a cord connector at the top. You should always use a cleat (metal wall fixed thing) where you can wind the cord so that there is no hanging cord left.

With regards to the actual blind, there should be breakaway rings on the bottom two rods and/or breakaway toggles.

I hope this helps?? I am happy to give you more help/ or even do all this for you as I already have the components. Feel free to drop me a line; griffithsnicola84@gmail.com
