Best nurseries for a Broomwood Hall school run

Postby urbanblossom » Mon Jul 17, 2017 9:10 pm

Hi there

My little girl will be starting at Broomwood Hall School in September but I still need to find either a nursery or a pre-school for my little boy who'll be 23 months by then. We've just moved to London so we're at an early stage of our research. Ideally I'd love a nursery or pre school that I can easily tie into my school run route from home (v near Northcote Road) to Broomwood Hall - but it has to be a v good one!

Thanks guys x

The obvious ones are Sparkies and Nightingale Montessori which are both based in St Luke's right next door to the first Broomwood building. They both have a good reputation I believe, and both share the lovely big garden out back.

If you're looking for a day care nursery I can highly recommend Nightingales Nursery (it's part of St Francis Xavier College near Clapham South tube so is great if you need to commute into the city - couldn't tell from your post exactly what you are looking for). It's about a 10 min walk from Broomwood Hall albeit the opposite direction from Northcote Road. It's quite small but very popular which means the baby room waiting list is currently closed but a few of the slightly older children are leaving over the summer (relocating to other areas) so they may well have a space at the time you would need it.

Hi

I can thoroughly recommend both Nightingales Montessori 1 (in the church next to BH) and Nightingales in St francis Xavier- all 3 of my children have gone to the day nursery and my second is just leaving the montessori.

The garden at the montessori is unparalleled in Clapham- huge, grassy garden that really gives london kids the ability to run and play together. I am convinced my children learnt almost as much outside as inside! The only downside with the BH school run (I now have one there too) is that the drop off is slightly later at 9am, but there are usually a couple of mums doing the same who you get to know well. If they don't have morning spaces then you will probably be able to get an afternoon slot, which fits in with the PM pick up at BH so not all is lost!

If it is a day nursery you are after then Nightingales Day is amazing. Slightly "shabby chic" compared to some of the snazzy new ones, but look past that- only 20kids total each day and they spend a lot of time together in the garden etc so they really are like a big family! Depends what you want though- I moved my 2 eldest for pre-school as I wanted them to be in a school-sized class to prepare for school but if you need the whole day then don't hesitate! I did the BH/Nightingales/Clapham's south Tube run for a bit and managed to get to work for 9am (work too far away now for that to work!).

There is this new nursery opening in September very close to Broomwood Hall. Such a wonderful idea... if it was around when mine were toddlers I'd have definitely been interested in the concept...

Hello
Apples and Honey Nightingale is opening on September 4th right opposite Broomwood Hall. It is the second branch of Apples and Honey in Wimbledon that has been running for 25 years and has Ofsted Outstanding ratings.
It takes children from 24 months and as it is new it does still have some space. It is set in the most beautiful garden of Nightingale House elderly care home with its own huge outdoor place space which is unique for London. The teaching staff are inspirational and highly qualified and the best part is that it is the UKs first intergenerational nursery which means that on a daily basis the children will do an activity with the elderly residents of the Nightingale care home. It is so a beautiful to see how both the children and the residents respond to this contact and form friendships. Www.applesandhoneynightingale.com
They have an open day coming up on Friday 4th August 10-12 and Monday 21st August 1-3pm
Good luck!

I would like to second what Mummywalker has posted above regarding Nightingales nursery at Clapham South. My daughter has been at the nursery since she was 9 months old and loves it. The staff are fantastic and it is evident that they all really love working children. The nursery is fairly small which means that all the children know each other really well and all of the staff know all of the children well too, so it feels very much like a family. They are extremely popular and as the other poster mentioned the waiting list for the baby room is closed but due to a couple of families relocating there may still be space in the toddler room.
