Thoughts on Bolingbroke's first results? Post Reply

Hi all,
Following the announcements of their first GCSE results, I'm wondering what anyone with more experience than me thinks of Bolingbrokes results?

Genuine interest as I am a Belleville parent who needs to look in a couple of years and Bolingbroke is round the corner from me. They dont seem to go into as much detail as the independent schools, perhaps understandably as its state, so wondered what anyone might think who has looked at these before.

Most of the state schools have not published their full results yet. I think Bolingbroke Academy results are extremely positive and encouraging, probably at the top of the table league for Wandsworth. The Council will publish the table league for all schools in the borough but it won't happen for some time. My son is starting Y11 this Sept and have no doubt that he will do well, if he works hard!

Those seem like really great results, they haven't put as much detail in as some of the other schools. I'm sure they will add more info soon. From what they have published, Chestnut Grove Academy achieved the same success, and that is another school you could consider as it is so close to Northcote Road.

My understanding from friends who have children at Bolingbroke and graveney was that they got similar results, with both scoring 80% + on the most common measure of 5 GCSEs at c and above, including English and maths.
The families I know at the Bolingbroke all got A stars and As - including 9s in English and maths so they are rightly proud of their children and the school.
Lucky to have such great state options on our doorstep.

My daughter did her GCSEs at Bolingbroke and her results were fantastic, better than she expected. She worked extremely hard and it paid off. The teachers were very dedicated and put a lot of effort into giving students extra support including sessions outside school hours. I am very happy that we chose Bolingbroke all those years ago.

Reading between the lines 80 children are starting the Sixth Form, the majority have stayed on. The entry criteria for A level courses is high - at least a B at GCSE for all A levels but A or A* for academic A levels. This would say to me that a large number of children at Bolingbroke met their entry criteria and so results must have been very strong at the academic end of the school.
If you go to website you can read all the Courageous Hounds Newsletters - they seem to do an awful lot of "extras" for the children.

The results are particularly impressive given that a.) 50% of the cohort was eligible for free school meals and b.) Bolingbroke is fully comprehensive at KS3 and KS4 (unlike Graveney - against which comparisons are bound to be made - which has a top tier selected via the Wandsworth Test).

The results at Bolingbroke are terrific, but do bear in mind your child's personality. I think it's a school that works brilliantly for certain children, especially those who are naturally hard-working and well-behaved.
