Prince George (aged 4), arrived at Thomas's Battersea this morning for his first day of school with his father Prince William. He was greeted by the head of the lower school, Helen Haslam, before entering the facility.

Thomas's Battersea, The £6,000 a term day school - has an emphasis on kindness. On the school website, it states that its most important rule is to ‘be kind’ – something the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are sure to agree with.

Another rule, though not explicit – is that the school is said to discourage pupils from having best friends, in order to stop others from having their feelings hurt. This might well come in handy for Prince George, who might prove to be rather popular once he starts.

I don't remember that my kids were met personally and hands held by the Head of our school on their first day. I don't have a problem with the royals but the school's fawning over them is really embarrassing and makes me want to vomit! Plus, in the first picture, is she actually BOWING?

yes it does read a bit like a sponsored ad.

i don't think the teacher is bowing, just bending down to his level.

100% agree! and paid by the taxpayers ! Meanwhile our kids are on the waiting lists of primary and secondary schools...

I, too, agree with the comments.
I don't have an issue with the royals being funded by the taxpayers, but it is not fair to the other children going into reception at Thomas's Battersea, who weren't personally met by the Head.
Thankfully the other children won't be aware of the double standard... But I surely hope the favouritism doesn't continue in the classroom.

Although I have no experience of this school. Others schools I have experience of, the head would meet every new pupil on their first or second day. Perhaps not hold their hand into the class but would do if necessary.

is it my imagination but has the traffic got a lot worse at school run times on Nightingale and Bellevue? (Due to security when the young Prince is being dropped off and picked up?

Or was this just his first day because of the huge Royal motorcade and security , with William dropping George off?

So not anywhere close to nightingale lane.

Head teacher wil probably shake the hands of all children in many schools, but they'all be all in a line and not escorted separately by the head into the classroom

Gosh some of you sound really bitter! Of course things are going to be slightly different and he's going to receive a little extra attention, it's not every day the third in line to rule our country starts school! Jealous much?

I agree with Samawali's comments..why the negativity, 'school's fawning', 'double standards', 'heavy traffic'(!)...??
George was not met by the Head of School. The Head of School was at the front entrance shaking hands and welcoming the children...no lines/queues, just a steady flow. George was essentially taken in through the back door with very limited media access. The media all used the same image/video from one source. Whether you like it or not, a picture of George on his first day of school gathers global media interest:-) Of course the Paps will show up, hoping to catch a glimpse of him through the car window. It was much safer, for all the kids being dropped off, for George to entrance the school separately. Contrary to what some think, the other children were then unaware of the media interest and therefore the children start off on the same 'pegging' in the classroom.
