Great swimming classes for children Post Reply

Afternoon all,

Having been guilty in the past of being fairly vocal when I get bad service or a shoddy kids class I thought that I would post about a new local swim school which I found to be absolutely brilliant.

They run swim camps as such, so clinics over a week in the holidays and the next one that I've just booked my 3 in for is during October half term at Ernest Bevin on Beechcroft Road.

The school is called Kimberley Swim Clinics and has, without a doubt, some of the most committed, caring and kind teachers I have ever experienced. In the Summer my 8 year old worked on stroke technique and was flying by the end of the course. My younger two gained so much confidence and ability (why oh why can't they just do that with me!!?). In fact my son had started to refuse to go in the water but his teacher was just an absolute darling. Kept his face so close and supported him beautifully.

They all absolutely loved it. I booked via http://www.kimberleyswimclinics.co.uk - I have no idea how many spaces they have left at this stage but it is really worth thinking about. Big, positive recommendation.

I couldn't agree more Katherine... My 5-yr-old daughter did the 'Foundations' clinic and was so impressed. Her teacher Ed was super calm and instilled so much confidence in her and the others, without gushing his approval. A week or so later on holiday in Italy and she was swimming lengths (slowly!) but with no armbands or float. Can't wait for the next course in October!

Kimberley Swim Clinics is AMAZING. My 5yr old twins were finally in the water without backpacks and with the biggest smiles on their faces. My daughter fell in love with her teacher and my son thought his teacher was the coolest man in the world! They woke us up every morning already dressed in their swimming gear. Their enthusiasm says it all....

Leander? They have a swimming academy. Places are in demand but if you persevere you'll (your child) will get invited for a trial.

I couldn't agree more about Kimberley Swim Clinics. Between various children I've been going to, and watching swimming lessons - highly expensive ones, and public pool general lessons - for over a decade. The Kimberley swim clinics are in another league all together. The teachers are so skilled, so focused, so helpful. The children were bursting with excitement every day to start their lesson. Even though they were working hard for the whole lesson - they were just taught in a way that they simply loved. And they made unbelievable progress with just one week of lessons. I think we're going away for October half term but honestly I would seriously consider staying at home just so my son can get another chance at this clinic! That's how exceptional I thought it was!

Sorry Falconmum I've only just seen this.

We did South West Swim School with my oldest for years but the price for 3 is utterly prohibitive!
So, the oldest is now at Leander (she got through the trial by the skin of her teeth!!) and the youngest two are about to start at Balham Leisure Centre 2:1 lessons...No idea how good it is as the first lesson is next week.

TBH we're kind of floundering with weekly lessons for the youngest two and following this camp wishing that they did regular classes, but sadly not at present.
I'll comment again once we're up and running at Balham to let you know what I think.

There are some great teachers at the Latchmere too. Ask for Lucas or Alan - they are both very good.

KIMBERLY SWIM CLINICS - ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS
My daughter has attended 2 clinics now and it has really brought her on. The most recent clinic was held at Ernest Bevin college, great facility, in the October half term. Everything runs like clockwork - very prompt start and the pupils work continuously throughout the session. The coaches are in the pool, with an excellent hands on approach to give pupils real confidence in the water. They are very focused on each child and the key technical aspects of stroke technique. Great feedback on your child's performance in the pool is provided at the end of the 4 days. My daughter has made wonderful progress thanks to Kimberly and her team - she has just moved up to the next stage in swim school. Falconmum, I never came back to you! Sorry.
Balham is working well on a 2:1 basis weekly and the kids’ teacher, Simon, is absolutely fab. We ended up with a Sunday afternoon slot but that works well for us and it is much cheaper than a 4:1 class with SWSS if more expensive than the larger group classes that they run at Balham/Latchmere/Tooting.

However, i’ll join the parent above by again reiterating that the half term clinic option is a great way to go. We did another in the October half term with Kimberley Swim Clinics and again the kids all shot forwards with their swimming. It was also great entertainment and exercise for the week off as we were staying in London. The pool they use at Ernest Bevin is nice too.

I keep trying to get my 4 year old in for lessons at the Latchmere, but each time they come back saying that it's completely full for both after school and weekend lessons.
So I turned to Kimberley swim clinics and booked him in for the October half term. He was a little hesitant at first (not having had lessons before) and I realised that I was a little overenthusiastic with the level I'd booked him in at, so after some recalibration of classes (he then moved down to the foundations stage), he was so much happier and absolutely loved his course. He couldn't wait to 'come back tomorrow' (in his words) and was sad when the week was eventually up. His teacher, Thomas, was in the water with the class (its a 4:1 ratio) and very hands on with helping them learn basic swimming techniques (as were all the other teachers too).
Ernest Bevin College has a lovely pool, and there is plenty of space for the parent(s) to sit and watch the lessons take place. Everything was well organised, there was someone to greet you at reception and direct you to the changing rooms. Each class started and finished on time. I was very impressed.
I got talking to another mum on the first day, and she said that she had tried pretty much every other swimming class under the sun for her children, but it is Kimberley Swim Clinics she keeps coming back to as she has found it by far the best.
I have since booked my son in for the February half term course. I know he'll have an excellent time and learn even more.
Well done Kimberley, your course is a true little gem and London's best kept secret...no doubt places on future courses will get snapped up quickly.
