Children's Audio CD Suggestions for Car Journeys Please!

Postby sky » Fri Sep 15, 2017 1:17 pm

Hi

I am looking for any tips for CD stories, aimed at 4 years old and upwards please. I have tried searching online and cannot seem to narrow it down. Peppa Pig tends to go down well but I'm looking for something different. Any thoughts would be very welcome as I'm slowly going mad listening to the same CD on every car journey!

Many thanks

not sure if it will work for your trip but I download the BBC iplayer radio app. Then there is a ton of content on there and I just download it as I go.

Admittedly it's more grown up in nature but some of their old dramas are ace!

I don't know about CDs but if you can connect your phone to the car, then there are a lot of audiobooks to download on the iTunes Store. Enid blyton, all the Paddington bear stories, David Williams, etc, etc. Life saviours!

We have a slightly motley collection (quite a few found in charity shops, worth a look)

Just so stories
Puffin stories for 5 year olds
Winnie the Witch
Various Julia Donaldson

We did a lot of travelling this summer and I found the CBeebies podcasts on the iPlayer app great. They lasted 15 mins or so which was the right amount of time for my sanity and the children getting their turn.

Also if you have Spotify there are a few playlists with children's stories on. "Children's Stories" is the one i found which was full of classics and also Disney stories.

Good luck!

If you/your children want some music (but I know it can backfire spectacularly!) I recommend "Jemma's Journey and Abi's Adventure"

If you read the review on Amazon it sums it up much better than I could!

The Red House Books website has some good, heavily discounted collections of kids' CDs, including Julia Donaldson and various children's classics. We also like 'Stories for 5 Year Olds' (& 6 Year Olds), available on amazon.

We haven't long been using podcasts and mine love them.
You can download them for free. Try Storynory and if you like them you can google more options/ideas

Wow, that is so helpful, a huge thank you for all of your replies. I think car journeys from now on will be much quieter!

You'll need to download it because I don't think there is a CD but one of the best children's songs "albums" we have is Pete Seegar's Children's Concert at Town Hall. He does a bit of storytelling throughout and the songs are great. It's also really long...:) The Balham library has lots of CDs of stories, too.
