Advice for 2 year old party please! Post Reply

Hello - my little one is turning two in the winter and we are looking at party venues outside our house. There will be about 15-20 kids and their parents. I would like somewhere that isn't too grim for the parents and they can enjoy a drink and chat too - so have ruled out big places like Gambado in Chelsea.

My current shortlist is:

Bertie & Boo Northcote Road (went to a birthday in the Adventure Island one which was fab but not available on our day)
Eddie Catz Earlsfield - private hire is £500 - B&B is £350..
Naturescope WAndsworth Common - anyone been to a party here? Its the room behind the Skylark café. There are toys available but not sure if we would need to bring in more entertainment here?
Function room in pub - set up a kids area with toys and get some entertainment??

Any thoughts on any of the above? Itt's my first time throwing a kids party so a bit lost - would love a summer party in the garden or park but that's not to be for my winter baby!

Hi,

Another option would be hiring a local hall?
For our son's 1st birthday (which was mostly attended by 2yo children and their parents, along with a handful of other 1yr olds), we rented a local church hall and hired soft play equipment including a giant ball pit/slides etc, and had pre-prepared platters of sandwiches and nibbles, with separate food for the children. It worked out really well and everyone seemed to have a good time. We also attended a similar thing at Chatham Hall where the parents had the benefit of being allowed to have alcohol on the premises so there was beer/prosecco for those who fancied it. Not sure if they self-catered or got a small company in to provide the food.

The only downside to hiring a hall is that you have to clean up afterwards. I guess the other thing to keep in mind is that depending on when your little one's birthday is, Christmas prices may apply in terms of hiring spaces/food cost.

I second Bertie and Boo! Get the earliest slot possible if you can..

If most of the children will be 2 or under I'd say they are a bit young for Bertie and Boo, save that for next year when it will be ideal.

If they are that young, I would go with the softplay toys and bouncy idea. The various local leisure centres can usually rent you a room with lots of squidgy play stuff and a bouncy castle, with the option to have helpers there to run some games as well.

From personal experience I would say that it is not worth spending that much in a party for a two year old that they won't remember.

Having said that:

• Orange Lion in Putney has a great soft play area and lots of function rooms, it's very spacious
• Fledglings on the Common rents its premises (but not the toys) on the weekend
