Looking for unusual ideas for birthday parties for boys

Postby mertony » Mon Sep 04, 2017 3:32 pm

I have 2 sons and always find birthday parties difficult to organise for them.
So bored of football parties ;)
One is shortly turning 5 and other is going to be 14 :o, Birthdays not on the same day!
Would welcome any unusual/interesting suggestions!

The above looked a bit naff when I read it but I thought I'd go to their website before posting some negativity. I initially thought "Oh. Another themed dancing birthday party. How original". I have to say I was wrong. The website really sells it and it looks great - something I know my kiddies and their friends would definitely love!

That aside, I've started giving my girlies experiences rather than parties or presents and they love it. Just the birthday girl and I go on holiday for a long weekend to somewhere in Europe and it generally works out cheaper. They have enough material stuff so holidays are their choice and it broadens their horizons (and mine!).

Good luck, whatever you decide.

I heard of a 'laser tag' party at Eddie Catz the other day and thought it sounded really cool.

Will go for the above with the little one and an off road driving or flight sim experience for the older one!

I have 2 boys and In the past I've done a rib ride on the Thames (followed by ribs to eat of course!); indoor surfing; indoor skydiving; walking over the O2 (they have to be over 10 for this I think); paintball and my younger son has had or been to parties including Flip Out, laser tag, weird science themed party, karate party and even a spy game experience. You can also hire cinemas for a private screening (the Exhibit in Balham, the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith or the Whirled Cinema, which is in a railway arch in Herne Hill). Go Ape is also good for any age and my older one enjoyed a trip to Ripleys Believe It Or Not in central London. Sparks do party packages where you get to make your own movie. Arty Party parties are fun for younger boys too - mine had a dinosaur making party when he was 6. Clip n Climb is good too, or JAGS Sports Club in E Dulwich has a climbing wall and hosts parties too (where you provide your own food).
Hope these ideas help...

Some great suggestions here but I also wanted to mention that there's a go-karting track in Mitcham that does party packages for 8+. My children (including teenagers!) have all enjoyed parties there.

Sharky and George and Bertie & Boo also do great parties for younger children.
