Caution: White Ferrari @ Speed

Postby SheddaSW11 » Mon Oct 16, 2017 12:34 pm

For the last few weeks, a white Ferrari has been flying up Mallinson Road in the mornings usually between 7.45 and 8.15am.

Whilst I appreciate that the lady or gentleman driving the car is enjoying it, it causes me great concern given they are flying up a road with cars parks on both sides and lots of children around (both redients and going to the nurseries). The car is going a long way over the 20 mile an hour limit and would never see a child dart in front let alone have a chance of stopping.

I'm really hoping the driver or friend of reads this (its pretty distinctive - not many white ferrari's around, even in sw11!). You have a lovely car, but please please slow down around our childrens streets before there is an accident.

Good luck finding them, but even more luck getting them to take any notice - clearly they’re not stupid, just very selfish.

Get the number plate and post it here with an ever-so-polite request to slow down.

I presume Mallinson doesn't have speed humps?

It doesn't Julian.

I actually live on Mallinson and although I haven't seen this particular car, it is all too commonplace to see cars speeding up and down the road. Mallinson Road is the first road off Bolingbroke Grove after the traffic lights on Battersea Rise so it's often the road that people turn down first to get to Northcote Road. They also cut through from Battersea Rise via Chivalry Road to avoid the traffic by The Northcote.

I asked the council a few years ago whether they would consider a one way system on all of the roads off Northcote, with Mallinson one way, Bennerley the opposite way, Salcott the first way and so on. Their response was that making the roads one way would just give a greater opportunity for people to speed. My argument is that people speed anyway so that they can get to the other end of the street before another car turns in!! I can't count how many times my car has been scraped due to people thinking they can get two cars past each other (you can't!!) and there was a horrendous row outside on Saturday morning when five or six cars refused to back up the road.

Out of interest, would anyone else back the suggestion for one way streets?

I would. Hadn’t thought about it from your location but Montholme Rd is the same - people speed up it to get to the other end quickly and then have flaming rows when someone keeps going from the other end. It would help a lot if all roads parallel to it were one way.

Could it be the same white Ferrari which emerges from Granard Road every morning at around 8.15am to roar up Bolingbroke Grove? How many white Ferraris are there in SW11?? Totally agree re a one-way system - these Victorian streets were never designed for bumper-to-bumper parked cars and high levels of through traffic...it's stress and high pollution levels all 'round.

I SO agree re one-way streets - I wrote to the council a few years ago and had the same reply about speeding but actually if you set out down a street and see someone waiting at the other end you tend to speed anyway. I also think the roads to the south of Broomwood (Hillier, Gayville etc) should be one-way too. The problem comes when people don’t understand the unwritten rule that the first car on the road gets priority. Almost the whole of Manhattan is one-way so I don’t understand why it works there and can’t work for Nappy Valley!

Hi there!
Sorry no I haven't seen the white Ferrari!
However I completely concur with the one way street suggestion. I think it every time as cars or vans have a face off about who should reverse and road rage just gets stronger and more common.
Like you we have suffered from scraped cars- even found bits of our car hanging off!
I honestly think there could be a lot of support for this because as you say the roads off Northcote road and indeeed the ones between Broomwood and Thurleigh are almost like chicken! The only thing I'd say is to try and gain as much support / acknowledgment/ feedback as poss it might need to be under a thread with the title relating to it. I only stumbled across this one by chance.
If there is some sort of petition for the council I'd be more than happy to sign it! It's got to be worth a go hasn't it?

And actually maybe not the case for the white ferrari's speed but do you think some cars are speeding down or up the roads to reduce encountering another car on the road and therefore needing to reverse?
Just a thought....
One way all the way I say!
