They are local and he's a nice guy, very experienced and does a really thorough job for what I found to be a very reasonable price.

realistically you probably don't need a survey. If it's a Victorian house it's probably not about to fall down. And the reports tend to point out fairly obvious points that you knew anyway. And of course you're going to renovate it anyway. So maybe just don't bother (I didn't for those reasons)
