Cabs with car seats for a small baby?

Postby Sam001 » Thu Jun 16, 2011 10:32 am

Hi,

I have been trying to find minicabs that have baby car-seats (similar to Maxi Cosi) but it seems that most of them do not offer this service, or only have a child seat booster which is not good for a small baby.

Ideas please?

Thanks x

this is not a direct answer to your question but did you know that if you take a black cab then you can travel with the baby in its pram, as long as the brake is on. therefore you don't need a car seat.

This makes life a lot easier, although i appreciate black cabs aren't always appropriate for a particular journey.

I honestly don't think you will find a cab company offering suitable seats for babies. Usually people just take their own surely?

Addison Lee used to, but have stopped. However, some of their older vehicles might have one, worth asking.

There was a thread about this recently. http://www.nappyvalleynet.com/post19463.html#p19463

I recommend a chap called Hanif. He's local and definitely has an infant seat. I originally booked him through a cab company (can't remember which one) for a friend of mine and her 1yr old. She told me afterwards how impressed she was with him, and he gave her his mobile number for future bookings. I put his number on the other thread.

Clapham cabs provide infant seats. Also if you want to use your own, they will take yours away (so you don't have to deal with it at your destination) and then if you do a return trip with them, they'll bring it back. Also they are polite, courteous, reliable - unlike Addison Lee who sometimes don't turn up at all, are frequently late and I've had to ask the driver many times to slow down or watch their driving!! Not to mention MUCH cheaper too :)

Had that problem while ago but have been told by several companies that you don`t need to have car seat in the cab so I have googled it and on childcarseat.org.uk it says : In a licensed taxi or licensed hire car, if a child restraint is not available then the child may travel unrestrained in the rear. This is the only exception for children under 3

Hi there,

Atlas Cabs - 020 8675 5555 - have always come up with a good baby seat for my one-year-old when requested. They're always on time too :D

Its true that its not a legal requirement to have an under three in a seat - but a booster seat at least is a lot safer than just strapping a three year old using the regular seat belt. A selt belt designed for adults can do serious damage to a little person - or even be fatal. Its surprises me that a booster seat or appropriate child restraint systems are not compulsory in cabs in the UK.

I have used KV Cabs quite a bit & if you ask they will send you a cab with a pop up booster seat built in, & once it's popped up, you then flip down the back of the seat to reveal a child's seat belt... because it's adjustable I have used these for children of 4 years as well as a toddler who's almost 2... hope it helps!
