Pilates class for beginners good for closing stomach muscles after birth?

Postby mummag » Tue Jan 02, 2018 4:43 pm

Hi I am in desperate need for a pilates class that will help me knit my stomach muscles back together after birth. I also have a hernia and hoping doing pilates this help with this? My baby is 17 Months so I can get going straight away.

Thanks :) and Happy New Year!

You certainly need to be very careful with abdominal exercises post baby with a hernia & probably DRAM - separation of the abdominal muscles. This needs to be checked by a Women’s Health Physiotherapist who specialises in Post natal exercises . Doing the wrong exercises ( twisting exercises should be avoided if the separation betweeen your abdominals is more than 2 fingers wide at your umbilicus ) can make the gap worse & potentially permanent.
Our new post natal courses start on Tuesday January 16 th in SW20 at 9.30 or 10.45 - free parking / free crèche . Check the web site Sue Lewis Women’s Health or email suelewisantenatal@hotmail.com for further information or to book .

Jane is AMAZING. She will speak to you, asses you and guide you in her classes. She also offers a class trial so you can give it a go for free to try it out. She is also super nice! Check her site and give it a go!

I gave birth in September and started 8 weeks later with her and keep going since!

Sue Lewis’ classes are great! She is a Womens Health Specialist physio -really knows her stuff and can help you with any complications. I’m a midwife and before my first class with Sue I didn’t even know about abdominal muscle separation  The classes are perfect for new mums- a combination of cardio and Pilates based - and the crèche is the next room is a huge bonus. Sue certainly helped me knit back together after my two arrived- but I’m thinking I need to go back to one of her more - ahem- advanced classes now!

I highly recommend Adriana (07711 845998). She covers pre & post natal as well as “general” Pilates; she does group & 121 classes.
Adriana was extremely helpful when I had sciatica - asked many questions to understand my symptoms, adjusted moves to accommodate and knew when to push when I needed it.

Hi Mummag and thank you everyone for the lovely shout outs. Knitting tummies back together is a big feature of what we do in our postnatal and antenatal classes (often I have pregnant, second time mums who have separations from previous pregnancies who need extra help).

I would love to help you!

How your inner core unit (thats your deep tummy and pelvic floor muscles) function is what I specialise in and what you need to focus on. As a sports science trained Pilates teacher, a mum and a pre and postnatal specialist, I'm very focused on getting you to connect properly and get you back to feeling not just how you felt before pregnancy but feeling like the strong, empowered, gorgeous mamma that you are!

We offer a free trial and we also have online training sessions so you can even do your exercises at home with me which is great for those weeks when everything conspires against you and you cant get to class!

Do hope to see you soon and please feel free to contact me via my website anytime. https://www.janewake.com/

Hello

I had tummy seperation after my second child, a combination of seeing a women’s health Physio and doing a holistic core restore course has been amazing and I’m so pleased with the results. I’d highly recommend

Good luck :)
