Hi there, I’ve been invited to a friend’s 40th which is next week. It’s a black tie do and my simple question is what to wear? I haven’t worn a black tie dress in about 15 years and don’t have any time to go trying on different styles in the shops! Could dash to a particular shop but wouldn’t know where to start! All suggestions v welcome!

Nowadays black tie dress does not have to be black- but should be very ‘dressy’. Pop into LKBennett on Northcote Road they still have some beautiful party dresses in the sale- and some not!

If you’re only going to wear it once you could try TK Maxx and pick up a bargain. The one by Debenhams at Clapham Junction usually has some black tie style dresses. It’s where I always go when I need a one-off and usually get compliments. If you don’t find anything then you can always pop up to LK Bennett on Northcote Road!

I would also say TK Maxx. For something you'll only wear once you won't pay a fortune, yet you'll find a long dress. Paired well with sparkly jewellery and pro makeup (done at MAC for instance) you will look stunning.
