Thinking of Going Back To Work - Or Starting Up on Your Own

Postby Career Coach Mummy » Mon Feb 26, 2018 3:13 pm

Hi Ladies,

I'm new to this forum, but after having a conversation with a friend of mind today I thought I would put the question out there to see what others are thinking.

I am a small business woman, I have been building up my own coaching practice for the past year. My experience has been quite a solitary one, and I wonder if other mumprenures out there in the Balham area are in the same boat.

My conversation this morning was around how we could get together as a group in order to support each other. What that might look like? would it be a once a month coffee somewhere, might it be an online call once a week where people could call in and discuss whatever is on their mind.

If this imaginary group were to be started up, what would people want to get from it, support , encouragement, just a place to vent, contacts like a networking type of group, advice from others ? I would love to know your thoughts, as it is International Women's Day next week my friend and I thought this would be a great time to kick off such an idea.

Would love any feedback or ideas.

All the best

Orla

I should add to this, just in case you are sceptical, I approached Orla to help me with this and it is not a salesy/gimmicky initiative.
After 6 years as a confirmed stay-at-home mum, I returned to work in January. I have gone back to a 4-day a week job at Accenture, being paid proper money... and somewhat feeling the pressure 6 weeks in. I turned to Orla because I want a bit of support. You can recall all the HR policies you like and talk about 'Inclusion & Diversity' but being the only one who can't attend a conference call at 8am is what really makes me cringe. It is the choice I have made. I believe we might not have true equality yet but women over the years have fought hard for us to have a choice and I want us all to benefit from that.

So, that's what this is about. Helping each other make choices, supporting each other when we've signed on the dotted line, keeping our options open for the future.

Please help us make this a really positive and helpful addition to our community.
