Balham Waitrose closing

Postby MrBalham99 » Mon Apr 02, 2018 11:31 am

Have heard that John Lewis have earmarked Balham Waitrose for closure. Anyone else know more?

I would be stunned if that's the case.

How/where did you hear?

Friend of a friend, high up in UK food retail. So I have no direct confirmation but it was apparently said seriously. And not on 1 April

I've always thought this branch must be a goldmine at the weekends, but it can be a little on the quiet side during the week. I'd have thought that overall it was more profitable than several of the Little Waitrose outlets I've experienced.

It would be surprising. Buts it’s the worst Waitrose that I have ever shopped in so I wouldn’t miss it.

I really hope it's not closing. I'd be lost without it! The staff are so friendly and helpful, I'm sure it will be missed by many - not only for a pleasant shopping experience, but also the click and collect service. The alternative is clapham junction which is not nearly as good. If anyone knows more, please do let us know.

I'm surprised as the car park is always full on the weekends.

Agree its not one of the better Waitrose - could do with a renovation, and its a bit small (I was spoilt by the gigantic one at Canary Wharf for several years).

Still, it would be a shame if it closed. I wonder why they're thinking of it. Nappyvalleynet being too digital forward and too many people doing online grocery shops instead?

The store is scheduled for a refit, they are not closing (I work for the company if anyone is wondering how I know)! :)

Oh. Em. Gee. I really don’t know how I’d possibly cope if the closure news was true. It’s so hard to find decent sushi, organic spirulina and quinoa in Balham. As for co-ordinating picnic essentials, well I’d simply be lost. And don’t even get me started on the free coffee. I literally hyperventilated with relief when I saw it’s just having a refurbishment. It’d be even better if they could expand the store by getting rid of the library, I mean let’s face it. Waitrose do sell books. Surely it’s a no brainer.

No way should the library close - that is an appalling suggestion! I use the car park for the library, if and when I can, and will spend the amount necessary to re-claim the parking charge as I appreciate shopping in Waitrose occasionally.

I suspect that was a tongue in cheek response taking the mickey out of a middle class problem, Waitrose closing

I’m pleased at least one person grasped my wry view of a first world problem.
