Rutherford House School Balham

Postby Maria001 » Sun Apr 29, 2018 8:28 am

Any parents that have they children at Rutherford House in Balham? I know it's a state new school and very popular within the area. The catchment every year is smaller so I guess is rising its popularity. Waiting for feedback?
Thanks

My two children are at Rutherford and have been there from the beginning. We are delighted with it - it’s a very inclusive, forward thinking, well run school. There’s a real sense of family there, with the parent body being very involved in the way in which the school is run (it’s a free school, so run independently). We have had excellent class teachers so far and my kids are very happy there. There are a broad range of after school clubs, which is brilliant for working parents. I would say that they are pushing the kids quite hard academically, but there is a good range of arts, music, sport and they all have forest school once a week on the common. One thing to note is that, by chance, there were 7 sets of twins (mostly siblings) in one year so this would have reduced the catchment by already filling a quarter of the reception class!! Might have more luck depending on number of siblings next year.

Feedback seems v positive

The uniform seems very formal - not sure how expensive it is to kit out a child

Hi!

My child is at RHS and we are very happy.

If you have any specific questions, do feel free to ask.

Last year the catchment shrank from 800m to 400m and as the school fills up there are ever more siblings.

Ravenstone is another great local school. I met Joe the newish headteachers and was so impressed by him. Great guy. So you have at a minimum 2 fabulous options.

With regards to uniform, it is very smart and seems a bit OTT for reception but my child loves it... learnt to tie a tie first few weeks into reception and the taught me ;)

After school clubs are great and the head is a good head teacher. She's not warm and fluffy but not sure that's what is needed as a head. The deputies make up for the warmth.

Good luck!
