Half-day / flexible summer camps for a 5 year old

Postby Pyra » Tue May 08, 2018 12:33 pm

Please can someone advise some multi-activity summer camps which:
1. Offer a half-day option e.g. 8 .30 am till 1.30 or 2pm
2. Are easily accessible by public transport (ideally tube) from Vauxhall station
3. Suitable for a 5 year old
4. Ideally open from 9th July

I struggle to find camps which fit this bill in the area - most of them (e.g. Activ at Emanuel which we have tried) seem to involve a car drop-off, which isnt always feasible for working parents.

There are loads-
Sporty ones- youngstars, open air fit, play ball, all the swimming schools run intensive holiday courses, the little gym , all star tennis
Drama- performance and stagecoach both run holiday half day camps
Artsy- half day options are funky moves (mostly dancing with some arts) or active art. Arty party is full day
I’m sure there are more but that’s all I can think of right now. Not sure how many will start on the 9th though....

Thank you.
I have checked many of these previously - very few offer an 8 or 8.30 am drop off - most start at 9 am or 10, or don't offer half day options, or are not on a tube route to Central London.

My husband or I need to drop off our daughter on our way to work in Central London, and she will be collected by her nanny in the afternoon. Little Gym, for example, is miles off our route to work. Most of Perform classes are not very close to tube stations, and start at 9 am. not many options for working parents, unfortunately.

I will certainly check some of the others on your list which I wasn't aware of.

Not sure any will have early drop offs. I’ve done most with my kids and I think earliest was 9.30 - sorry!

Youngstars at Alderbrook starts at 8.30 I think. Not too far from Clapham South tube. My 5 year old daughter went at Easter and loved it.

I run SWsportscamps at Clapham Common but we don't start until the state school break on w/c 23rd July. I don't know of anyone starting up that early. You might want to see if Playball can work something out for you.

Good luck!

It’s worth speaking to Chloe at https://www.picassosinthepark.com

My son had a fantastic time at their two day Easter camp which was in Oval, right next to the tube station. Drop off was at 9am but it’s enroute to london so my husband still made it into work almost on time! ;) Maybe they’ll accommodate a slightly earlier drop off?

They do drawing, painting and gallery trips. Lunch was provided and they finish at 3pm.

Youngstars could be an option, or the only others I have found that have an early drop off option are camps run by Fit for Sport, and Strings (but the latter is traditionally run from schools quite far away from tube stations). Picassos in the Park would probably not run camps all through summer holidays, and in any case seem to be very expensive (£ 70 a day).

Definitely a market for wrap around summer camps in South-West London at locations convenient for public transport. I know Camp Beaumont offers some sort of coach pick up for their holiday camps but I haven't explored that yet.

I know that you mentioned the Tube is better for you, but Activ at Emmanuel is a very short walk from Clapham Junction (exit via the 'top' Brighton Place entrance, crossover, through Strathblaine Rd and you're basically straight onto Spencer Park).

Try The Little Nut Tree, run at Rutherford House. It offers early starts and half days some days (not all). It doesn't have its summer dates up yet but imagine will line up with state schools given venue.

Thank you - what is the start and end time for your tennis camp and how many days do they run?
