How to recycle paint tins (Wandsworth won't accept them)?

Postby SouthLondonDaddy » Thu May 10, 2018 10:14 am

As per the subject: is there any way to properly dispose of / recycle paint tins in beautiful Wandsworth?

The recycle centre on Smugglers Way won't accept them:
http://www.wrwa.gov.uk/recycle/reuse-an ... eningtimes

I found this website which is supposed to have information on how to recycle paint: https://communityrepaint.org.uk/
but in practice it's useless, because it lists the recycling centres of other councils (e.g. Southwark or Camden), which do accept paint (why on Earth do some centres accept it while some don't???), but are only accessible by local residents.

It seems the only realistic options are:

Throw the paint tins with the general, non-recycled household waste, or

Ask a friend in Southwark or Camden to take it to their recycling centre

Thoughts?

Thanks! I would have never imagined...

So, in summary:

Southwark does not collect paint but lets you bring paints to its centre.

Wandsowrth does neither.

BUT

The City of London collects paint from most of London, including Southwark AND Wandsworth!

:? :? :? :?

Rules are so complicated and messy... I often wonder what the advantages are of having 30 or so councils in London, each with its set of often different and incompatible rules!

Put them on freecycle, I got rid of even tester cans before that way!

Richmond is green and all about recycling if you can be bothered to trek across the borough -https://www.richmond.gov.uk/services/wa ... le_schemes.

Are we allowed to go into the Richmond Townmead Road tip as Wandsworth residents?
