Recommendations for vegan cake/bakery?

Postby ardnas » Sat Jun 16, 2018 3:53 pm

Hello!

My child has dairy, egg and peanut allergy unfortunately which is so new to us because we've never had anyone in either of my husband or my family had any allergies at all! Any advice on how to cope with allergy toddler and more importantly recommendations for vegan birthday cake please? Much appreciated!

There are a couple of cake shops on Upper Tooting High Road that cater for the Hindu people - cakes are western style but without the animal products. I haven't bought one myself yet, but they look really good.

Hello,
I would recommend visiting Get Juiced the juice and vegan food bar in Tooting Broadway Market ( near Brickwood) . I recommend calling or call8ng in and speaking to Leon as he makes vegan desserts with natural sugar sources. I would probe them about utensils and equipment used as he does he does use a lot of nuts, but if it's only peanut your child is allergic this will make it easier. My youngest is allergic to all nut as well as peanuts so I also have to be very careful in healthy food cafes and often have to avoid them for his sake .
The Cakes in Tooting the previous poster mentioned are egg free but not dairy free ( for the Sikh diet) so they won't work for your child.
Deliciously Ella, the cookbook has delicious vegan cake and dessert recipes and many use nuts like almonds.
Good luck with your search.

Hi the parsley song and Star, thanks for your reply! Let me try to reach for Leon. Perhaps next time I'll practice more and perhaps home bake our vegan desserts!

Also try Yorica. There's one in Soho and one in Notting Hill and it is mainly ice cream but completely allergen free, no dairy, egg, gluten, nuts or peanuts. So you can relax if you have a child with multiple allergies. We haven't tried but I heard it's great.

Vida Bakery makes the best vegan cakes (hey can also be gluten free). They’re based in East London but are worth the trip. I do a fair bit of my own baking (were a vegan family) but this year I couldn’t face all the extra work involved for a themed cake so my son had an amazing 7 layer rainbow layer Scooby Doo cake and my eldest is plumping for an Avengers rainbow layer cake.

They taste amazing too - eggs and butter are redundant these days!

Hello! Thanks everyone for the suggestions Have kept them in a list to try next time I pop by those areas. Tried Lola's Bakery's vegan cupcake but found the vegan icing too soft/wet (could be the heat, now that I think about it!) For now have ordered a vegan cake from Hummingbird Bakery - hope it'll be good!

Hummingbird cupcakes are waaaaay to sweet and sickly so hopefully the cakes will be better. They use far too much frosting IMHO. Just my view though! I hope you enjoy it.
