please include the number of replies whatever screen. perhaps a list of categories with a total of new posts and continuing posts with perhaps the three most recent posts on display. also some way for new posts not being used to knock off continuing posts... And try not to be a mouthpiece for WBC without immediate review.. not an easy set of tasks NVN!!

I love nappyvalley and have used it pretty much since the beginning but I have to agree re layout. These are just my thoughts but I find the changing and scrolling adverts dominate the site and are uncomfortable on the eye and so I close down quite quickly after opening. The topics are almost a smaller pert of the site and I don't particulalry like having to scroll to see them.

I agree with Julian re opening a new page every time you click on a topic. That drives me mad and has stopped me using the site as much.

Also, the layout doesn’t work on an iPhone as you can’t see the full text (as others have said).

I too love NVN but the changes to the layout etc have made it much harder to navigate & as a result, I think people may spend much less time on the site that prior to the changes. Doesn't work on an android either.

I also feel I use the site less due to the sw.. mums FB groups. Partly because the buy / sell posts on NVN are so clunky and don’t seem to have much response, partly because the process of sending messages is not easy, and also because every time I want to read a response to a thread I am following, I have to log back into the site. Why can’t NVN allow people to read posts without logging in? And why can’t we have an integrated sign on like with other sites (eg google or FB authentication)? On the last point, perhaps that exists but I am a “legacy” user and havent realised I can switch...

I can only agree: The new front page is basically just ads, it's hard to find any interesting new/active threads, and it's a pain to use on mobile.

please no tie ups with global sign-ons. they are terrible for security. AOL chat has effectively been destroyed by the FB sign on requirement.

Hi Everyone,

I'm part of the NappyValleyNet's tech team.
Many thanks for all of these useful comments. We are working through them one by one to see how we can improve the user experience for you all.

We have so far addressed the following issues which have been raised:
1) Local News has now got it's own thread in the Main Menu.
2) In addition to having pagination at the bottom of the page, we have added pagination to the top of the pages.
3) The opening up in a new tab/page when clicking on posts has been removed.
4) A quick reply button has been added to the posts for easier posting
5) On mobile sites, we have added a sticky header which has buttons for scrolling back to the top of the page and a quick link to quick reply / quick start a new conversation.
6) The number of replies to the posts has been added throughout the site.

You say you have banned some individuals, but there are still a handful who plainly know one another and persist in trading juvenile insults at every opportunity. This is really, really boring for the rest of us. How about simply banning those who refuse to stay on topic?

The trouble with Nappy Valley is threefold

There is so much out there on google and Facebook if you know where to look. And the dark web for those who like ‘covert procuremebnt’. google is good at bringing up nappy valley when most appropriate.

There is a fair amount of trolling going on as well, I think. People over time work out who is who and this winds people up. People also get very political in this ‘momentum’, ‘trump’ and ‘Twitter’ age. Politics and fun don’t mix.

Then there are the cons. There are people who sign up, post and never get seen again. Some of this is businesses recommending themselves and setting up a fake name to facilitate this. Some is advertising holiday villas etc that one starts to think looks suspicious. Ones who never respond to detailed questions on their villa. We all have heard the stories about people hawking places they don’t own and want to collect rent from only to run away.

It’s a good site. But you have to know what it is good for.

Agree on the mobile navigation issues. Just want to say though that the site has been a massive help over the past few years and that I am very grateful for the community here. The research function helped me many times to find a tradesman or activities for my daughter even years after the initial post was published.
And Annabel’s weekly email are the best way to get back into it and to know the latest news
Regarding improvements: how about a feedback survey you would send in that email? It might help you get a broader view of things.
