Well done Purdyeve for such a lovely post. My children don’t board but I also found words used in Petal’s offensive and unfairly judgemental. You just do not know everyone’s circumstances.

I am not British and found the concept of Boarding hard to get my head around. But when it was time for my children to go to secondary school I did go and see a couple of Boarding schools. Clearly I do not have extensive experience but I found the two schools I saw to be both warm and happy places with great opportunities and I would guess much less pressurised than London day schools.

A number of my children’s friend boards and on the whole they are all happy and enjoying school and I don’t see any children “scarred by the abandonment”.
