I would make sure the painter understands best way to do this and the paint to use. Our kitchen was installed by Harvey Jones. Their painter did an amazing job and it lasted for 14 years with only the bin cupboard and the cupboards where we keep our cutlery and plates looking tired around the handles.
We got it redone last year by a painter who was recommended. The job is nowhere nearly as good and is already showing scratches. It also feels almost sticky. Our handles were really easy to change. The painter can unscrew to paint and then refit new ones or get a local handyman in to do it. Really easy to find new ones on intranet.
