How much do live in nannies charge?

Postby darlingbabs1 » Mon Jul 11, 2011 7:54 am

We are thinking of getting a live in nanny next year. We are hoping she/he will do 60 hours a week with our 2 kids and a couple of nights babysitting. We have separate accommodation for the nanny with its own entrance and kitchen so its a nice set up. Does anyone know what the going rate is for this sort of thing? Thanks in advance.

This is a good question.... I'm thinking of getting a live in nanny.
I think that 60 hours is a lot. but are you including any time during the weekend too? thats a lot for someone. Normally they work 50 hours and thats still a lot.

we are thinking: 50 hours
2 nights of babysitting. (which they just put them to bed and thats it)
and if any other night we put our son to bed and they can just watch the house..
It seems that you have amazing set up so you could get away with just paying them a bit less.
.all meals included.
let me know how much is current rate...

as a nanny myself, I'd say around 350 per week...

but to be honest, 60 hours a week is far too much.

10 hours per day mo-fr is the max most nannies would do....
if you want someone for the weekends too, then I'd suggest a full-time (50 hours) nanny ,and a live-out weekend nanny to do the extra 10 hours.(at around 8 pounds an hour)

i agree with the above, £350 (net) a week is the standard rate for a live in nanny and this includes food.

You may be able to negotiate a little less salary with the nanny but as mentioned 60 hours is too much and most nannies wouldnt work that long. 12 hours a day 5 days a week is the maximum in most cases i.e 7.30 to 7.30 then you can negotiate babysitting eves & involve them in nannies contract if dont want to pay extra for babysitting but usually no more than 2 nights a week is fair.

Remember you will be paying the nannies tax and NI so dependent on the nanny in question (experience, qualifiation) as to how much they expect to be paid, you may be able to negotiate on salary but most agency employed nannies will expect £350 (net) salary a week

hope helps

sorry my maths is terrible 12 hours a day 5 days a week is 60 hours lol. Thats my hours as a live in nanny but i go home at 5.30pm on a friday that was my negotiation for doing 12 hours a day mon to thurs so maybe you could work out something like this with potential nanny?

I also agreed to 2 nigths babysittng but havent had to yet past half an hour where mum/dad been a little late but in the knowing that this (babysitting) can be accrued if my family need me to babysit all week one week... this is ok by me as we have had prior agrrement :)

Most live-in nannies I know are paid £350 p/w after tax. But I know it ranges from £300 to £400 p/w depending on age and experience. This is for a 60 hour week.

It really does depend on their experience too, its always best to say worse case scenario too, so should you end up not needing them as long it is always a bonus.

60 hurs is a lot but there are many nannies who would happily work it for between £350-£400npw. We can assist you in finding a nanny should you require any help.

Good luck!
