Not looking as bad on the St Johns Road though - a new ice cream shop Amorino has just gone in for planning, more or less opposite Pret (the smaller corner unit) - they have a few other shops across London and more widely.  Speaking of which, that branch of Pret seems to have been very successful - it's busy every day of the week.

Debenhams is the big risk factor for the whole retail centre (in terms of its ability to draw in a market beyond the immediate residents - which is quite important for the area as a whole), though the Clapham Junction branch certainly pulls in the numbers (not quite the layout they'd really want, but nonetheless visibly busier than Wandsworth branch and many others round the country) it'll all come down to the passing rent.

The prominent (and eyesore) former Carphone Warehouse corner unit has also just gone in for permisison for conversion - to become a new branch of Dexters estate agents.  Their other Lavender Hill branches are tidy and presentable (as one would expect for an estate agent), so we can count on the premises looking rather better than they did under Carphone's tenancy.   At some stage I expect it will be redeveloped more comprehensively, like the neighbouring properties, to add floors and (hopefully) make it a bit more in keeping with the other surrounding buildings.

I am really surprised Mountain Warehouse is reappearing - they were in the site which is now Pret for 2 years and then closed, about 2 years ago I think?

There is a lovely new Middle Eastern (Lebanese) on the corner of Battersea Rise and Northcote - next to Dip & Flip. It’s called Amar and it replaced the previous kebab shop. The food is really great, and reasonably priced. They have nice tidy tables at the back and the owner is very passionate about food. Highly recommended! They also do take away and delivery, and are open for lunch and dinner. A nice alternative to Baba Boom! (Baba Boom is great but always super busy).

Agreed about the pizza and burger joints and the posh kids shops... why we need another burger joint next to Franco Manca is beyond me (why not Mexican for example??).

By the way, Farrago on Battersea Rise is now a lovely, upmarket Italian, great decor and nice for a special night out.

I second Farrago on Battersea Rise. Real good fresh food, I'd hate for them to go. They are lovely too.

There is not many options now when it comes to independent restaurants of good quality, we seem to be left with chains... a shame really.

When I walked by on Saturday midday, I was pleasantly surprised that Farrago seem to do a lovely and reasonably priced brunch too - a great option for anyone not wanting to queue on Northcote Road.

This weekend 'The Hive Shop' closes, and they are having a closing down sale of all things honey related.  Only a handful of independent traders left now outside of cafes?   On the old Babel site, Archer Street opens next month.  It promises "an experimental cocktail bars with live music and D.J's".   Oddbins has also gone into the night and when Opus finally shut their doors, there will be quite a few big empty sites.

Joe and the Juice has/is opening this weekend.  Slightly off Northcote Road, MacDonald's has applied to extend their opening hours to 3am on the weekend.

In reply to the posts about Farrago - Back on the first weekend of February, I went with three other mum friends for a much needed and long awaited girls night out as we have 2 year olds and are exhausted mums. Due to reading people recommend it, I suggested it be the place we go to. Their online reservation system was down, which apparently "happens a lot" according to whomever picked up the phone when I called. That should've been the first sign. I got there and there weren't many people in the restaurant for a Friday night but I figured we'd at least not have to flag anyone down then to get help. The other mums arrived over the next 30 mins and when we wanted to order another bottle or drink, we had to stand up to get someone's attention. When we started to order, one of the mums is a vegetarian and the waiter couldn't tell her any options on the menu or if the risotto could be vegetarian. Two got the pasta, the vegetarian did decide on the risotto and I got the rolled chicken. We all agree it was one of the worst tasting meals we've had. The pasta looked like it had been reheated leftovers, the risotto was bland and my chicken was bone dry and flavourless. Maybe it was an off night but we had such a horrendous experience that you would have to pay me to eat there again!

All looking a bit sad at the moment.  LK Bennett, Sergent Major, ex-Doves etc.

A pop up Cycle shop called Temple Cycles, retro looking bikes. That’s in the old Opus store.

There’s a new pop up in Doves too which looks a bit like the old store with a different name.

I would love a corner shop at the far end of Northcote Road.  The local Spar was there for donkeys years has now gone. I notice Dandilions went ages ago, but still no-one has filled the shop. I think some landlords are kicking out existing shop holders (by putting up the rent) but then they shoot themselves in the foot by outpricing themselves and their shops are remaining vacant.  So, yes, I would like a M&S Foods, or Sainsbury's Local would be great!!

The old Everybody Bikes shop at 176 Northcote Road (next to the Bolingbroke) will be a vet.
