What's the going rate for an au pair in London?

Postby lalectrice » Mon Jan 28, 2019 4:56 pm

We are thinking about getting an au pair via aupairworld, which says that the going rate in the UK is £80pw (plus food & accommodation). Presumably au pairs in London are entitled to a bit more cash? I've looked at the profiles of other London host families on the site but there seems to be real variation. Any advice on what an appropriate sum would be? Many thanks.

I always thought 100pw was very fair in London. Then if they were really great I’d increase to 120pw and pay for gym membership or £10ph for evening babysitting.

I pay 120 all in. She only does about 15-20 hours but you can’t live on much less, with travel, phone I need her to have, etc.

We pay £120 pw plus an automatically topped up Oyster for travel. She works 3 days (both children at school) plus a couple of nights babysitting if/when required.

As per a previous poster, you can start at a level you’re comfortable with and update once you’ve had some experience in how good/useful/professional he/she is.

We pay £90. One paid week holiday every 3 months. An allowance of £100 for flight here. She's on duty 20-25 hrs a week. We pay extra at times when her duties increase.
