Private clinics offering BCG jab

Postby Stripyshirt » Tue May 10, 2016 11:49 am

Hi, does anyone know where I can get the BCG jab done privately for my one year old? I've been calling the Wandsworth Immunisation team since last September to try to get my son immunised but it's like trying to get blood out of a stone. TIA!

I'm in the same situation!
Have just written a complained about it.
But more realistically, I would be interested where to have it done privately too.

Citydoc do it in central London only: Moorgate clinic on a Wednesday and Oxford St clinic on a Friday.
£85

Babies up to 1yr get half a dose, after that it's a full dose which can mean a bigger scar (I think price is the same)

I'm in the same situation; my daughter was meant to have hers next week via the Wandsworth Immunisation Team but I got a text saying "We are sorry but the BCG vaccine is now only being offered to those babies who are most at risk, as a result your appointment is cancelled. If the current situation changes, updated information will be made available."

She is only 7 weeks old but I was advised by my Health Visitor to book ASAP as they frequently run out of the vaccine, which is probably why hers has been cancelled.

Does anyone know when she will next be offered it? I am wondering whether to cut my losses and go private...

I wouldn't hold my breath for an appointment on the nhs soon..
We have been trying for a year (on and off), were finally given an appointment and like you ours was cancelled too.
There is a shortage of the vaccine (at least in Wandsworth) and on top of that their management of the limited supply seems haphazard.... It doesn't seem that they have a wait list, I think it depends on how lucky you are when you call.
I complained to the Wandsworth immunisation team and they said they had a big backlog.
We did it privately in the end as I didn't want to wait much past his first bday.

Three years ago I was looking to get bcg and I found a private gp in Kingston who was doing the vaccination. This time Wandsworth was doing to every kids and it was a long queue. Good luck. Don't worry about the scar. Just dot put any oil on the arm and you won't have any scar. After the vaccination it's no mark for a week so remember to don't put any oil.

Wow.. Wandsworth for BCG is challenging AND rude. No notification comms about what you have to do, reliant on parents chasing for appointment and then if your baby is over 1 year, you need to do it privately even if its their fault you didnt get an appointment on time. Plus not recommendations given for private clinics either so I suggest "you do your own research". So any private clinics recommendations gratefully received!
