Mummy loosing hair at 40! Help

Postby MummyCarolyn » Thu Apr 11, 2019 7:49 am

Hello this is really annoying but my hair has disappeared by probably half lately. Or maybe I’ve just notice it lately.
Does anyone know where to go to get advice please?

I don’t dye them, don’t do too many brushings, I am really wondering what the cause could be and how to stop it before I’m bald!! Thanks

Really sorry to hear Carolyn. Hope it’s not too distressing for you.
You can go see a trichologist - tHey specialise in hair and hair loss. They can help organise blood tests to see if there is any reason in particular - Eg low iron levels etc, post Partum/breast feeding
I used to work with Philip Kingsley in Mayfair so would recommend them as they are sensitive about these issues. They also prescribe products perfectly suited to your hair type.
There’s quite a lot of info online too: Philipkingsley.co.uk
Good luck sorting it!

Hi there,
Sorry to hear this - it must be upsetting for you. I’m a health and nutrition coach and I do see this commonly with women in certain circumstances. One is as the above poster mentions after breastfeeding (usually do to extra hair growth during pregnancy/hormonal) but very commonly with thyroid issues or after a Period of stress when issues with mineral and vitamin absorption can occur. It can also be hereditary or due to certain medications. I’m not sure exactly why without knowing your other symptoms but in your shoes I would want to get to the bottom of why it’s happening so hopefully the suggestion above can help you get to the cause rather than just fix the symptom. I would ask about functional testing such as a thyroid adrenal hormone panel and a hair tissue mineral analysis .
Wishing you the best of luck
Cath

It could be Hypothyroidism but depends if you have any other symptoms.

I am a Reiki healer and health coach and help many women deal with these sort of issues. The body has the ability to heal with the right environment.Nutrition places a huge role and your mental and emotional state cannot be ignored. Also hormones!

Understanding the root cause usually fixes any symptoms

Your welcome to book a free consultation so I can do a health history with you.

Hi - the first thing to check and the most common (and often undiagnosed) is Hypothyroidism. Often triggered by pregnancies it seems.
Other symptoms can include feeling tired and cold - but to be honest I did not clock those really. Which mum of small kids does not feel tired :-)
Go to your GP and her your thyroid gland testes asap before you try other things.

Poor you. People above have mentioned nutrition, including low iron levels. My hair loss, also in my forties, was caused by anaemia (low iron in the blood, because of heavy periods) - taking a good iron supplement and eating more eggs and red meat sorted it out very quickly and it's been fine subsequently. Might be something you could try while you wait to get yourself tested. Anyway, best of luck!

I lost a large patch of hair in my 50s from the crown of my head. The cause was diagnosed as discoid lupus. It hasn't grown back but the good news is with treatment it seems to have become stable.

Such severe baldness can even be due to severe stress, there can be many reasons, but I can probably help you. My friend, when my uncle had problems with baldness, I sent him this link  and after 3 weeks, the hair began to return to the methods, so I’m sure that you will find treatment methods for yourself. I am very sorry and hope that you can be cured, because the site really has a lot of useful information.
