When did you remove the bar on your Tripp Trapp?

Postby gingerem » Mon Aug 22, 2011 10:53 am

My 21mth old daughter can now climb into her Tripp Trapp high chair by herself. I'm wondering if the time has come to take the bar off as it would make it easier for her to get on the chair and therefore slightly less dangerous as it can be a precarious manoeuvre! However, she also pushes the chair away from the table and I fear that if she didn't have the bar she'd be constantly trying to get off again, mid-meal.

In my humble and non-expert opinion I think you should definitely remove the bar now. She will be much safer climbing in and you can tuck the chair up to the table while she is sitting in it.

I removed all my 3 children's bars as soon as they started trying to climb the chair (can't remember how old they were!).

At 21 months, my son was climbing in and out of his Tripp Trapp. I was worried that he would fall so we removed the bar one Sunday evening. By Monday evening, we were in A&E with a small boy with a broken arm after having fallen off the Tripp Trapp. I was sitting right next to him while he ate but he was distracted by something on the floor and leaned away from me to look at it, tumbling to the ground.
My daughter is now 21 months and climbs in and out of the Tripp Trapp by herself. I'm reluctant to remove the bar after my previous experience but I don't know which is more dangerous. Perhaps remove the bar but put the baby harness back on?

We removed the bar a few weeks ago at about 2 years, 2 months. Mixed feelings about it, she loves getting into it by herself, but you have to watch her like a hawk as she is forever wriggling around and standing up on it. Plus she tries to hop off mid meal when bored.
I personally would try reins for a bit before taking off the bar, although no falls yet, am sure there will be..
