Moving to Wandsworth

Postby Jaybee124 » Tue Nov 03, 2020 2:59 pm

I am thinking with hubby of moving into Wandsworth . We have seen a lovely flat in the area but wanted more advice regarding the area really in terms safety of the area , things to do for toddlers as have a 2 year old and also prep schools and nurseries. What are the best ones to put her name down for etc ?

The majority of Wandsworth is very safe, but it's also quite big, so it really depends on where you are considering. It's a great place to live with kids but there are also lots of bars and restaurants to keep us adults happy.
There are (in non-lockdown times) a shed load of activities for pre-school kids, from Playball to ballet, music classes, tumble tots, football, rugbytots...
There are lots of nurseries, but it really depends on if you are looking for a full time one, as in full days and no school holidays. Or a morning/afternoon session somewhere which tend to follow school holidays.

Thank you for the reply Norfolkgirl. We are moving close to wandsworth park and near to the riverside quarter development . Any views of what it’s like to live there ?

For heavens sake, it's in one of the most prosperous and peaceful cities in the world, where people on the whole don't have guns.  Any risks are tiny.

It's quite quiet round there - am presuming you mean the huge development of flats near the river? You'd only a be a few minutes walk from the shopping centre at Southside and Garratt Lane, a few minutes walk to the Old York Road High Street and a short bus journey to Putney. Wandsworth Park is great for kids and on your doorstep. King George's Park is close too and offers tennis and has some good playgrounds. There are all the activities you could possibly want for toddlers. In terms of nurseries and prep schools - The Roche is a lovely, caring school with lots of families from the RQ and just a few minutes walk away. They also have a lovely nursery. Hurlingham School is a little bit further, but again not too far away. Am not sure about the catchment for state schools from there. You may get into Brandlehow from there.

Prospect House is a fantastic Prep. in that area but you could possibly get into Brandlehowe from there, an Outstanding and and ambitious state school. Of course there is also Hurlingham and a bit further away are Newton Prep. and Merlin, which are both really excellent independent schools. Wandsworth Park is great for kids, with mini golf, and you have the river right there!

I would also suggest you come to visit us at Wandsworth Prep, as we are very close to where you will be living. We are kind, nurturing school with a family feel. Our head of admissions Maria would be happy to have a chat with you about what you are looking for. She can also arrange a visit with our new head Jo Fife, who is very friendly and welcoming. Our details are wandsworthprep.com 02088704133 or
