Ideas for Christmas gift for nanny?

Postby Bluebunny » Fri Nov 13, 2020 8:00 pm

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone can offer some advice re nanny’s Christmas gift. It will be our first Christmas since we employed our lovely nanny and we don’t want to disappoint her.

What do families do? For our cleaner, we give her cash in a Christmas card equivalent to 1 week’s wages, but for nanny I’m not sure. I considered John Lewis vouchers but husband doesn’t think it is a good idea.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Cash or a store voucher - if you don't want to do John Lewis, One4All is accepted in loads of places - they sell them in the Post Office

As a nanny, I don’t think you can go wrong with cash! I’m sure she will be very appreciative of anything you give her but cash is always a winner. 🙂

I would have to say cash all the way.. And a week's wage is generous if she works full time for you, but if it's part time, I would up the amount to perhaps 2 week's pay..  Not sure how often your cleaner comes, but I would definitely give her as much as you can afford, as often they are struggling the most.. Remember it's xmas, and it's always a challenging time of year for anyone whose earnings are mediocre in comparison to our own household finances.. (Cleaner's are often the worst off)

If you want to, perhaps a little pressie to go along with the cash is always appreciated (a warm winter scarf, or nice gloves..) .. Perhaps a nice homemade card from the children to add that personal touch..

Bottom line, give generously, but obviously, limit to what you can also afford.   Your nanny and cleaner will appreciate it, and it will only strengthen your relationship..

Good luck
J.

For our nannies and most recently, au pairs we have always bought a sweet smallish gift from the likes of Oliver Bonas from the children and a bonus from us of 1 or 2 weeks pay in either cash or Westfield vouchers

Sorry to be daft but how do you "give" the bonus - do you write a nice card and mention it in there and then it's just a bank transfer? Or literally cash in a card?

I would do it as proper cash in an envelope with a card .

Hi
I am a nanny so my opinion may be a bit cheeky but my bosses past and present have always be so kind and given me a little extra cash usually a weeks wages and then something separate from the children. I’m always touched by whatever I receive and believe it’s the thought that counts and I’d honestly be happy with a hand made card and some chocolates although the cash does come in handy around Christmas time

Cash envelope seems to be the best choice considering the economic situation
