Help! Recommendation for repair of stairs

Postby Busymumof2SW » Tue Apr 27, 2021 7:30 pm

Hi everyone,

We bought a Victorian house and the stairs were in high need of renovation.

We then hired a firm to do the job - stripping it all back, sorting out all the nails that were out of place, fixing the steps, sanding, filling, painting, the works. We paid quite a lot of money for it but they have done the most dreadful job. The stairs look appalling. There are nails poking through, bits of wood falling off. It is appealing and gosh, it makes me so sad. We are obviously having quite stressful discussions about the remaining payment due.

I actually don't want them to come back to sort it out because I actually don't trust them anymore.

Wondering if there is anyone out there who would have a recommendation? Someone you have used to repair really old stairs and did a good job? Or even someone who can honestly tell me I lost my money and should just replace it with a new one?

I am nervous about self referrals now unless backed up by individuals we can contact to discuss previous works.

Thanks in advance!

No recommendations here I'm afraid - but jumping on as I'm also keen to find someone to replace my cellar stairs.
In my case after a bog standard no frills staircase though, nothing that would be on display.
