recommendations for Dr Practice

Postby Babyboomer47 » Tue Jun 08, 2021 10:09 am

Does anyone know a GP surgery locally where registered patients can ring up and book an appointment on the same day and be seen by a doctor?

I have been registered with Thurleigh Rd for many years, but obtaining an appointment when needed is proving so difficult I would like to know if all doctors operate the same system
This is what happens:

Patient Access via computer offers a Dr Triage but with a nurse.

The phone lines are blocked at 8 am. When you do get through its often too late to have a same day triage, with anyone.

My test results were held for 3 days after they were received.

Once inside they used to be excellent, can't comment now as I haven' t managed to see a doctor for over 14 months!

I would be sad to leave but this doesnt bode well at my age for my future needs

My daughter and I use Battersea Rise Surgery and cannot praise them enough. The receptionists are helpful. Yes the nurse calls back at first but if it’s urgent you get to see a doctor face to face and results are given as soon as they have them. Our experiences have been excellent .

I’ve found Clapham Park Group Practice to be brilliant; current process is e-consult request and you hear back from a GP call by next day (often same day depending on when it was submitted), but if it is more urgent, you can ring to speak with reception and will have a call back from a duty GP within 2 hours or so. That GP does the ‘triage’ and determines if you indeed need to come in for a physical appointment (same day or later date depending on circumstances), or if another solution is more suitable.

Tests results tend to come through text, but you’ll also get a phone call if follow-up is needed.

Unless you’re willing to pay you won’t have a lot of choice as most surgeries have pretty small catchment areas. I’ve always been very happy with Thurleigh Road and hopefully once (if…) the pandemic’s over things will go back to normal.

I've also been really disappointed by Thurleigh lately. I was looking to move to one with is as digitally enabled as possible and am in the process of switching to Begg Practice on St John's Road, which appears to fit this description and be highly rated.
