I'm writing from South Africa, where I'm "stuck" visiting my elderly parents. My story may help you decide whether to risk it or not .. of course depending where you are travelling AND whether this Government is going to panic again without considering the science etc.
- If I want to return on my original scheduled date, there's no guarantee I will be able to as the quarantine hotels are full in the UK - loads of people are stuck in the airport in Johannesburg as a result. (So ...extra costs for scarce hotel places)
- If I'm forced to extend my stay my travel insurance company won't extend my insurance, I found out a few days ago
- As and when I CAN get a place to quarantine, it's going to cost me a small fortune (around £2500 for the hotel & 2 PCR tests for one person) for a 2 or 3-star dive near Heathrow.
- Heaven knows how this will affect my work...
When I booked my flight & flew out, things were looking rosy & it didn't even seem possible this could happen. My stress levels are high - even though there appears to be very little I can do about any of this.
So if you do go away outside the UK, be careful it's not to somewhere where such things could happen to you too
