Thoughts on Ernest Bevin Post Reply

Our son has been offered a place at Ernest Bevin. We are on the waiting list for Bolingbroke. We didn’t have Ernest Bevin down as an option. We have visited and spoken to the SENCO who was very nice. We have no friends with children at EB. I wondered whether anyone on here is familiar with the school, have sent your children to EB, how did they get on? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

I used to live on one of the roads where the students walked to get to EN. I hope your son is acquainted with the F word because that’s the only word I heard these kids use .

I have 2 sons at Ernest Bevin, one in the sixth form and a year 8, I will also have a son going in September (Who has Autism so have spoke to the Senco and gained experience about the extra help my son will require and I’m satisfied they will care for all his needs whilst there)

Having been a parent in the school for a while I feel I have a good all round experience of the school and I have always been happy

My sons have been very happy there which Is why I didn’t hesitate sending my 3rd son, I feel it’s a caring school with lots of pastoral care, as well as them really getting the best out of your child academically

I love that they have such a wide range of sports, plus cookery, drama on top of your key subjects
The extra curricular activities (pre Covid) are brilliant with before, lunch time and after school

My sons have never had any issues with bullying / gangs / Drugs / Violence and my sons have always felt safe there, they have said to me they feel they can approach a lot of teachers if they have anything they want to discuss, my children have fallen out with other boys, that’s nothing I would think out of the norm of any other secondary school and the teachers may have discussed things with the pupils and it’s got resolved but i think it would be hard for a large amount of pupils to be in a school without the odd disagreement

They have always been very responsive to me when I’ve had anything to discuss with the staff

Any time I’ve been in the school I find the receptionist very warm and welcoming and you see how the boys respond to the front school staff

Whilst in the lockdown schooling, the school kept in touch, checked on the welfare of the children and also asked about the family in general rather than just the pupils at the school
The teachers provided really good live lessons and was very responsive with feedback to how the boys was getting on
They tried to also do a bit of extra curricular live lessons

They have an active parents group that helped to fundraise to provide laptops for the pupils if needed and also put together an virtual quiz night for staff, pupils and families

I was hesitant when I took the place for the oldest 6 years ago but any worries I had was unfounded and as a family we are happy with our choice

You will find that this is pretty universal at every secondary school worldwide!

I presume you are referring to me.
I have manners and common sense . Teens from any background push boundaries,you may be more aware of SOME of the EB pupils because you live close by but the behaviour myself and friends have witness of SOME pupils from Chestnut Grove,Bolinbroke,Graveney,St.Cecilia etc. as not always been exemplary. The original question was to gain first hand information about the school,something that obviously you don't know anything about.With your comment you are implying that the school is no good because you have heard some teenagers swearing...they just happened to be wearing the EB uniform.The schools can't police the language and behaviour of their pupils once they leave their premises .

If this is really the case you should have a more balanced view of the school and the pupils instead of generalising in such a negative way.

And you should stick to commenting on something you know about as most people are too busy to explain the nuances but sea lions never do as you just demonstrated . I’m sure twitter needs men like you .

I'm sorry Kirstie's Mom but you sound like a Karen. The EB boys are not as bad as you've made out compared to lots of other schools in London and it has a lot going for it. I'm also baffled by the idea you volunteered there? And still have those views?

Sorry ,you lost me with the sea lions remark...I am not sure what you mean. Anyway,I know what I am talking about as I have a son at EB and I do not recognise my son or his friends in your negative remark about the school.
And before you come back with more silly comments let me clarify that I am under no illusion that my son is an angel and his behaviour is always impeccable BUT he is not walking back and forth from school everyday effing and blinding as in your original comment!
"Lucky" EB to have had someone like you as a volunteer with such balanced and positive views of the school
