Going Rate for a Cleaner

Postby chorister » Fri Jan 07, 2022 5:14 pm

We have a wonderful cleaner who had been with us for years, but she has one terrible failing - she would rather die than ask for a raise.  Please therefore advise what the going rate per hour is now, so that we can sort it out.  Thanks on advance.

Hi

With all due respect, did you ever think about giving her a raise earlier after so many years? So it’s her fault for having this one “terrible failing” of not speaking up?

The going rate seems to be 14 pounds above. They don't have much job security and have travel time between jobs.

We gave her a raise about 2 years ago and have paid her throughout COVID whether she came or not.  And we currently pay her more that £14 per hour.  Our worry was that with inflation as it is we might once again be behind the curve.

An apology will be gratefully received.

I pay £13 an hour but I know this is cheap - most of the ones I found charged £14/15

£13 -£16 p/ hr for us because I didn't watch the clock and was fine with that if all was done.
I think anything above £12 direct to the cleaner ( not an agency) and for a regular clean is a good amount.

Due to inflation and prices going on up,I found that the going rate is £15/16.

I had a similar dilemma and suggested to pay her £60 for 4 hours. It seemed fair and she seemed happy with it.

There is a tendency (luckily confined to a very few people on NV) to tell other people off. You sound like the perfect employer
