Potential disruption from Storm Eunice today - Local advice from Wandsworth Council

Postby Community Editor » Fri Feb 18, 2022 10:31 am

Wandsworth residents are urged to take care today as the Met Office has upgraded the weather warning for London to red for very high winds.

A red warning is rare and signifies a high risk to Life. It will cover London between 10am and 3pm. Disruption could include falling trees, flying debris, collapsed power lines and severe flooding.

Residents are urged to stay indoors if possible and only travel if really necessary.

The council will have a team on standby to deal with any fallen trees. They can be contacted on 020 3959 0071/0070 during office hours. Outside of these times contact the Wandsworth Emergency Control on 020 8871 7490.

Crews have been out earlier than usual today making scheduled refuse collections in order to attempt to avoid the worst of the wind.

Additional collections will be arranged for tomorrow (Saturday) if necessary. Please do not leave uncollected rubbish out on pavements today but present it for collection tomorrow.

The council will monitor the impact of the storm and send additional street cleaners out if necessary.

The borough’s parks will remain open but residents are urged to take extreme care.

All COVID testing sites in London will be closed today. People who have booked tests today will be automatically contacted to cancel their appointment and will be given the opportunity to rebook for another day. The Roehampton drop-in vaccination centre will be closed.

The Met Office has recommended taking precautions before the storm hits, including securing loose objects such as ladders and garden furniture and tightly fastening doors and windows. Read more.
