I've recently obtained quotes from Capitol Carpets, Admiral and Bowloom. As everybody says, the guy in Capitol Carpets is rude and unhelpful and did not give contructive advice. Bowloom were excellent but very expensive compared to the other quotes. Admiral were fantastic - a very competitive quote and great service. Ask for Steve - he comes out to quote on Saturday mornings.

I've heard that Capitol Carpets are closing the shop in Northcote Road and are moving close by - Battersea Rise I think.

I aske Capital Carpets for a quote and never heard back from them until I chased to be told 'I didn't seem serious." I've just spent £4, 500 on flooring on Blham High Road. Is that number serious enough for you? A shambles!

I think i was the original poster here and just wanted to say that after the initial rudeness and attitude i got in Capital Carpets, and the recommendations on here, i went to Bowloom. They were 10% more expensive but friendly and efficient. They have laid the carpet beautifully and i'm very happy. I was also told by Capital Carpets that they were only interested in taking the time to quote for people who were serious - they did eventually quote for me but only after i'd been in there 3 times to chase them up (and prove i was serious i guess?!). We have just spent £10,000 on carpeting our entire house so a big loss for them, and i won't even be asking them to quote next time. Bowloom were very professional though, so a thumbs up for them.

I went in there a couple of months ago thinking it would be good to 'go local' and they were not very helpful at all!
Have used Admiral Carpets who were much better. No surprise at all they are closing down.

Try Braggins on Lavender Hill . Great advice, great prices and Tony will send around the guys to do free measuring as well so that you dont have to worry about it .

We have used them to carpet the living room and the stairs .....and it was quick and easy both times !

We are using Marlows carpets on east hill as some previous posters have recommended. V helpful and long established shop. We found a really nice carpet there then called other local suppliers to compare prices and they (marlows) were £5 a metre cheaper than all the others. They measure for free too (I assumed all shops do but maybe not) and fitting is very reasonable.

Please everyone use Marlows Carpets on East Hill. They are fantastic. They did my whole house and were just realiable, professional and good value. The owner (Peter Marlow) runs the shop and is very friendly, helpful and totally honest. They have great fitters. They are one of the best businesses I have ever used. It's very rare to find a company that's such a pleasure to deal with. Can't recommend them highly enough (I know that sounds like a commercial plug - I've no connection with them at all other than being a very satisfied customer).

Just wondered if anyone had tried Central Carpets & Flooring?

Perhaps Capital Carpets have been secretly reading these posts and taken note. I previously had a bad experience with them about 6 months ago when I had a quote done. The man turned his nose up at my choice of carpet but had no constructive advice to give me for a suitable alternative. Needless to say I went elsewhere!

However today I popped back to nose at colours for my living room with no intention of using them for the fitting (very rude I know), but the same guy who had done my previous quote came up to us and really seemed to take an interest in our decision. He came up with some alternative colours and styles and even let us take the shop sample with us for a few days. As a result ofthis as long as the quote is competitive I'm very likely to use them.

I know we all have bad days but when you are in sales it really does pay to put your problems behind you and focus on your customers.

Capitol Carpets is so so so expensive! I've always used Floors for thought on Battersea Rise - they are so friendly, good value and very helpful.

Ali at Ideal Carpets in Balham is amazing - I buy artificial grass from him and he can't do enough for his customers. He prides himself on offering better customer service than John Lewis - he really is brilliant and is very cost effective.

Ali's number is 07984 358398
