How many trick-or-treaters to expect?

Postby Westcoastmom » Wed Oct 12, 2022 9:24 am

We recently moved to the between-the-commons area and plan to decorate our house for Halloween.  Can anyone provide an estimate of the number of trick-or-treaters we can expect if we leave our lights on until 8pm or 8:30pm?

Thank you!

I reckon a door knock every ten minutes but they travel in packs and so their could be up to five vampires/witches in every door knock.

They also swap intelligence so once you get a reputation with the Werewolves for having good candy then all the Warlocks will come by too.

I think it's the only time of the year they all operate collectively.

Hi!  Last year I believe I went through at least 6 large bags (maybe 24 pieces in each if I remember correctly) of fun size candy.  We ran out and had a few upset late trick or treaters, however we also had a group that took the whole, recently filled, bowl of candy while I was bathing my son for bed.  Didn't want to disappoint any kids and mistakenly left out an unattended bowl - won't do it again here!  This year I may do 8 as it seems since moving here in 2019 more kids are coming round each year, especially now that most are comfortable out and about again.  I do live on a busier street with many houses decorated for Halloween which draws in a few more groups than other roads I'd suspect.  Hope this helps

You have to leave out a pumpkin or some other decoration which is code for “please call here” - leaving the lights on probably won’t be enough. Where I live (Toast Rack side of Wandsworth Common) we usually get hundreds of visitors. It’s a well known T or T area and people come here from other places because the pickings are so good. One year I had a lady and her daughter from Mitcham! Costs a fortune in sweets but it’s such fun to see all the kids dressed up.

Obviously too late now but truck or treating is ALWAYS the 31st. You can have parties on other days but you’ll probably just get short shrift if you try knocking on people’s doors any other day than the Big Day itself.
