Any Good Shoe Repair?

Postby Paulette » Thu Feb 02, 2023 4:26 pm

Hello, I used to know a very excellent shoe repair shop in the City but it has disappeared during the pandemic.
Since then I have not found any other. Timpson on Battersea rise/ northcote road does not inspire me.

Anyone can recommend a top-notch place to get my fancy shoes fixed?! where do you get yours done?
Thanks!

The Golden Boot, Maidstone. You will have to send them off but great service and quality repairs.

The Village Cobbler in Southfields - top of Replingham Rd is very good and will do exactly what you ask.

Alex shoe repairs at 103 Lavender Hill (just by the business centre) is brilliant - used him several times.  Confusingly though his name isn't Alex!

Mathews Shoe Repairers opposite Clapham South tube is excellent. Quite expensive but worth it in my view as your shoes come back looking like new every time!

Matthews for me too. They also sell good shoes, albeit a fairly limited range.

Not in SW London, but, since you mentioned the City:

The Vibram shop near Old Street is amazing. Vibram makes some of the best soles, especially (but not only) for hiking and mountaineering.

Used them for replacement Vibrams on walking boots but not thrilled tbh.

From South London to North London I have probably tried all the 'good' ones and we are very very fortunate that the best shoe repairers in London are just on our doorstep opposite Marks & Spencers in Clapham South.

Mathew's Shoe Repairers, Balham Hill

Have a look at their reviews and pictures.

I had previously posted recommending Mathews but now retracting that having had a terrible experience there recently. He tried to charge £185 to put rubber soles on my husband’s shoes and was extremely rude and difficult about giving me the shoes back when I decided (less than 5 minutes after dropping them off) that I didn’t want him to do the work. A sad example of someone having got above their station and thinking they can charge whatever exorbitant prices they like. I subsequently got the shoes done for £50 by the lovely cobbler in Balham station who did a fantastic job. A shame but I will never be returning to Mathews after over 10 years of being a very loyal customer!
