Wolseley or Ivy Asia for a big birthday celebration? Post Reply

Hi has anyone been to the Wolseley and could recommend it? It is for a small group of friends to celebrate a joint significant birthday. The other thought is Ivy Asia which I know would go down well as a couple of people love asian food but I am not sure how amazing the food at Ivy Asia is? Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has been to either recently.

I had a dinner for my 50th at The Wolsley (during that weird lockdown period when you could go out but only until 10pm). It was completely fabulous and I would highly recommend it. If you can get one of the private rooms at the back then would also recommend you do that.

I went to the Ivy Asia last summer and thought it was pretty average, especially for the amount they charge. The decor is nice but the food was so-so. I love the Wolseley so would personally go there.

From the choice of those two, I'd go for The Wolseley every time.

Ivy Asia is completely hideous - Wolseley is wonderful. That’s all I have

The ivy asia is completely average and horribly over the top. I went and couldn’t believe the clientele it attracted…lots of influencers in neon green spandex. The Wolseley is so so so much better in every way

I think it depends on your group.  If it's a younger group, say the Instagram generation, then the Ivy Asia is great.  We went there for my daughter's birthday last October and had a good night out.  The decor is vibrant(!) with a lively atmosphere.  I thought the food was of a good standard, the equal of say Tsunami, and we had very good service.  

But if you're looking for a more traditional dining room setting then this isn't the place.  There are other options in central London for excellent Asian food at that price point.
