Dermatologist / Dermatology Recommendations please

Postby mummybubble » Mon Oct 16, 2023 4:49 pm

Can anyone please recommend a (preferably local to SW12 but I guess could go to Regents Park/Harley St area) dermatologist for severe teenage acne please? My 14 year old son is badly affected (red and inflamed spots, infected at times, start of ice pick scarring, bleeding around collar area etc). Now he is on Lymecyline (antibiotics) and a gel called Epiduo. These are the strongest things you can get via GP/primary care but he’s gone from inflamed and infected to itching/burning and flaking skin with the Epiduo! I’m also unsure about long term antibiotic use at his age.

Help is needed as it’s really getting him down.

I tried Dr Emanuela Campalani in Clapham but no answer so far (have left a message). Thank you in advance. 🙏🏻

If you are happy to go privately try the Cadogan Clinic just off Sloane Square - Mr Wisam Alwan.  It's £250 an appointment.  Hope that helps.

I feel for you and your son: acne can impact our kids so much. We have a similar problem.

We went to Justine Kluk's clinic in Harley street. It is very (very) expensive but I wanted to see someone specialized in acne. We are only in the first month of treatment so I cannot comment on results.
There is a waiting list for new patients, but they can fit you in if there are cancellations. You need to be flexible with date and time.

I suggest you try Rachael Morris-Jones at the Harley Street Dermatology Clinic.  She is excellent.

I understand how tough acne can be, especially for a teenager. It's good your son is getting medical attention. Considering a dermatologist is a wise move. Have you heard about botriomycome? It might be worth discussing with the dermatologist for more insights. In the meantime, hang in there; with the right guidance, things can improve.

We saw Dr Clare Martyn-Simmons UCLH where she runs an adolescent acne clinic. She also has a private practice at the Wellington Hospital. A bit out of the way for South London, but she is brilliant,
