Are Miele machines worth the extra?? Post Reply

Apologies for the more mundane post but both my washing machine and my tumble dryer are about to hang up their hats. I was going to go all in and get new Miele versions of both but they are a significant amount more than Bosch which I have now and want to make sure that they are worth it. If anyone has any thoughts or experiences please would they share. Very grateful in advance.

Yes definitely!
We bought ours 10 yrs ago and they are still going , thankfully. While the non Miele appliances had to be replaced for one reason or another.

I have to agree with Flowermummy, we have a Miele washing machine and a Miele drier and both have lasted for years and years.  We also put them in our rental properties at work.  Yes, they are a big investment, but in this case you really do get what you pay for.

We used to buy Bosch or Siemens washing machines and they lasted, on average, no more than 6 or 7 years.

They seemed to fail because either the switchgear packed up (ie the rotary knob that selected the wash setting and rotated as it went through the cycle) or the door release mechanism went kaput. In all cases the cost of repair was more than a new machine...so at least 4 washing machines went to an early grave over the years.

So we bit the bullet and paid about 20% more for a Miele washer...that was in 2014.

Ten years later it's still going strong (fingers crossed) - I think that 20% extra was a sound investment!

Yes !!

LOVE my Miele appliances, I’ve got everything from Miele.
They not only last, but when something does break they can always be efficiently be fixed by Miele engineers.
We’ve only had to fix the washing machine and that was almost 10 years after buying it and we had extended warranty.

The oven is easy to clean, really recommend the self clean options for ovens, love their full length fridge and freezers etc

Yes! Agree with the other posters, washing machines and tumble dryers excellent and no repairs needed yet, we have had them for 10 years

Not for me I’m afraid. I purchased the most expensive both washing machine and dryer. The dryer broke down after only 8 months. It was covered under guarantee, but personally I’m not impressed by Miele and wouldn’t buy again. Bosch has been brilliant and we have Samsung in our rental
Property which has never gone wrong in 9 years

Yes, Miele definitely are good machines. Had my for 14 years still brilliant and if you have any issues Miele offer repairs . If your budget stretches I would buy one.

Adding to the others, not only their durability, but the way Miele wash and dry superior. If you have expensive clothes, cashmere jumpers, woollen items, you can wash and dry with their specific programmes and they come out perfectly. I have been washing cashmere jumpers for over 10 years and they do not wear off, they look like new. Silk also come out perfect, I was silk scarves and blouses. So totally worth the investment.

Yes, yes, YES!!  Not trying to outdo those posters who have 10yo Miele machines but our excellent Miele dishwasher is MORE THAN 20 YEARS OLD, and still going strong and washing beautifully, enjoying the help we give it by rinsing the worst gunk off plates etc.  It did have a blip recently and I nearly keeled over when I saw the price of a new one (but it's all relative - ours felt horrendously expensive all those years ago, but it's proved to be worth every penny), but thankfully a clever engineer found a minor problem, cleared it up and we are back to happy dishwashing by our old friend.  We even still use the lovely quality cutlery set we were given for free with the machine all those years ago!   BTW, had I needed to replace it, I was advised to go for the most basic model (with the features I wanted like cutlery rack at the top) as, I was told, the add-ons as they go towards the top of the range tend to be a bit gimmicky and, obviously, mean more to go wrong...
