Why won’t Councils mow our public areas? Saving money at our expense.

As the ‘No Mow May’ is over 🙄, can someone from Enable / Lambeth Council / Wandsworth council explain why they are mowing our public grass areas. And cutting back the growth by the paths.

Springfield grass especially looks a real mess and many areas of long grass are now full of dog poo.

We get very few months to enjoy the outside space and this lack of cutting also removes the use of many areas.

is it just a cost cutting scheme under a guise of something else ?

No, it’s a pretty successful effort to enhance biodiversity and protect this precious planet of ours - you know, as someone said, “There’s no planet B”. Your children will probably thank you for it.

I absolutely love it! I only wish they would leave more, it allows insects to lay their eggs and breed, including butterflies, and provides an opportunity for wildflowers to produce seeds so there will be more next year. This improved the health and number of pollinators and also provides food for wild birds. What's not to love!
