teenage therapist to help my son know when he needs to back down.

Postby Lou 5 » Thu Aug 15, 2024 7:17 pm

Could anyone recommend a therapist that they have used for a teenager.

My husband and I feel that he needs some help with knowing how to back down when things get heated.  I seem to find myself in the middle of very heated father son arguments that go from 0 to 100 in minutes and have spoiled numerous family dinners, occasions etc. It is becoming very tiring and very groundhog day so we thought that maybe he would benefit from a therapist to help him see how he can control his behaviour a little better before it all goes off like fireworks.

I wouldn't describe him as an angry person in the every day sense just one that seems to think that he is usually right and more than that, being wronged if he can't get his own way.

Sorry no recommendations but reading your post wondered why the therapy wouldn’t involve your husband too. If it is father son arguments, if I was your son I would think I was being blamed for all this if sent to therapy which may just cause more arguments. Maybe your husband needs to look at his own behaviour too if they are becoming very heated. Not saying your son won’t need help but just sometimes worth recognising you can only change your own behaviour….

Hi, I would highly recommend Laura Newman, LEAD Approach. She is a speech and language therapist

She supports a lot of children and families with relationships and gets to the bottom of problems using holistic methods.

I am also a speech and language therapist and appreciate this is very difficult at times for parents, even me! Laura has really helped me in just a couple of sessions to build stronger relationships with my children.

The difference it has made has been so beneficial.

We are battling social media and iphones due to increased social pressures which hugely impact how we need to parent and our relationships with our children.

Laura’s website is https://www.leadapproach.com/.

You can also contact me at speechtherapysouthlondon.com or speechtherapysurreylondon.com

I hope this really helps you!

My brother has the "He who has the gold rules" They do what you tell them or no pocket money extras etc!
Fined for shouting with father at dinner scale given in writing in advance,to how much and what they wont get for how long if they do whatever. And stick to it! Used to lock up my bicycle as punishment 60 years ago.
Side effect was when I got to 16 bought a motorbike.
