Hello, 

I'd love to hear from anyone who has had laser eye surgery done. I'm thinking about it and would be interested to hear someone's first hand experience and if there is a specific clinic or person they would recommend.

Moorfields hospital , best eye hospital in the world . They have a private clinic for corrective procedures . Bruce Allen is very good but not sure if he practises anymore . Had mine done there 10yrs ago , no issues and was done in 30 minutes . Technology has moved on a lot in 10yrs and much less invasive from what I hear . It did (10yrs) cost £5k but probably more now.

You can’t go wrong at Moorfields but I’m sure there are some good Harley street clinics

I had a different procedure with Bruce Allan at Moorfields after laser was unsuitable for me. Would recommend.

Hi, I am also wondering if to go for it, but have heard of people with dry eyes and glare afterwards. I am glad that the two posters above did not have these problems, could this be related to the professional? I am not sure...

I had mine done 15 years ago at Vision Express. Still perfect vision from a -5.75 start. Excellent eye surgeons who had lots of experience and did a lot of charity work. I tested three clinics before I chose them. Harley street ones were awful -high prices, poor cleanliness and not experienced enough just trading off the address. Moorfields is your safe bet but many at Vision express trained there and their after care was superb.

For those that have done it - what happens when you get to the age when you start to naturally become long-sighted? Do you need to wear reading glasses? I ask because I’m short-sighted and used to be able to wear contact lenses but now when I wear them I become long-sighted. Whereas if I wear my glasses and take them off I can see close up very well. I was just wondering if the laser surgery means you’re trading one problem for another down the line?

I had mine done about 10 yrs ago at the London Vision Clinic and am so pleased I did. Great before, during and after care (they even gave a little pre op massage to make sure you were suitably relaxed). It was expensive, but my sister had had her (much worse) eyes done there with great results and I wanted to go with a personal recommendation because I didn’t want to risk it! To the query about flare and dry eyes : my eyes are less dry now because I don’t wear contacts, and I had a lot of flare after the procedure but only temporarily while my eyes were healing. I used to have to travel everywhere with eyedrops (esp on planes) and haven’t used drops at all since the procedure. These are risks though, so you’re right to call them out. I am now 43 and starting to notice that my eyesight isn’t as perfect as it was, so I’ll probably need to look into glasses for reading soon, but if I can, I will look to get my eyes re-lasered in the future!

Thank you for the advice. I appreciate you taking the time to reply. My mother had her eyes done and her sight was excellent but she used to complain a lot about dry eyes - so I did wonder if it was connected to the procedure.
